UCI has really got to sort out this start order business i.e. go back to what it used to be. Maes should've been riding in the same conditions as the top 12 guys considering he qualified in 12th. Not to mention the fact that his run wasn't broadcast (on the replay at least) and there was no movement in the hot seat for the last ~25 riders - boring...

Gwin must've been gutted but come on bro, shake the other guys' hands at least.

Very interesting race, liked the jump section-showed that going full gas isn't always the best.
Also it is hard to tell with Maes - is he joking or being serious, but nevertheless iconic(?) win for him,and the spirit of enduro as he said.

on the side note, watched this, cleared up some off the stuff about venue choice(but could also be lizard talk, just to keep everyone calm)

I take back everything I said about Gee if that will make Maes go away. :banghead:

I’ve got bad vibes from Maes every time I’ve seen him interviewed for EWS. Maybe it’s cultural/language but I don’t get the same feeling from the young French DHers.

Could there have been a timing error during that miracle sector of his? I’m interested to see the post-analyses.

Gwins jump was sick. Pierron riding like a demon was fun to watch.

Grats to Gee, for real.

PS I think this track was overall pretty wack and the rain random factor didn’t help. Flat sections with roots and rocks and poorly built jumps remind me of Diablo.

:stupid:

Also, it looked like most guys hit the flat section in a wrong gear... Anyway, eff Maes and his smirk.

Surely at the bare minimum, the UCI needs to get this start order fuckery sorted so that we can at least get back to a point where the fastest qualifier is last one down regardless of any other considerations. Trying to explain to someone why Gee wasn't last man down today needed a 5 minute powerpoint presentation.

2019 WC DH and EWS domination by Maes. You guys had better get used to that smirk of his.
If there's any consolation from Maes' victory it's maybe that Warner will stop referring to the "French revolution" in RB promo videos. And the fact that Maes wasn't on the wagon wheelz is a plus.

But he's still smarmy af and I seriously doubt that he will be able to back up today's result at the World Champs let alone dominate next season.

I just read the rule was some Whitely machinations...
Seems like some half-assed way to guarantee Live broadcast airtime. Maybe the next step is permanent numbers like Supercross so we can all put giant 3 and 22 stickers on the back window of our Raptors.

The youth should be the future of the sport or there is no future of the sport.

A lot of big names didn't make won't be automatically protected next year. I wonder if they will even keep the daft system they used this year.

Finally, here is the winning run:
Damn he looked to be rolling fast. Who knows if it was tires or track conditions or if he really did some magic and carried that much more speed. Regardless, total respect for his talent but not a fan. Hope he races Val di Sol or similar it chews him up and spits him out

SPIRIT OF ENDURO!!!!

I just wish he’d been wearing a fanny pack. A DH-specific one.

Too bad about Gwins belly flop. That neato scrubby move made up for it though. Except for the fact that he got beaten by an Enduro athlete.

I’m more gutted by Pierron’s off. He missed out on some serious merde-talk potential. Putain d’merde, quoi, ohn?!

So happy that they finally got footage of the full Maes run up; looks to come in to that flat section in a big gear and just cranking where most other guys were in a smaller gear and not dropping nearly the horsepower. Everything from that point on is full attack and proper grown man gnarly bike riding at high and dangerous speeds in those conditions, respect to the young man, what a run, what a fortnight. Consecutive EWS and World Cup DH wins and he's 21 years old. Jesus.

Just when I was coming back around to Gwin this season, he goes and douches it up.
Shake some fucking hands dude, yer not gonna get any devil-cooties.
Incredible scrub /line deek, gotta give him props for that one.

Maes is proper quick on a bike, that was an animal of a run; just don't like his personality - at least what I have seen of it.

Bring on Worlds.

The only thing the Maes win had me thinking is that Sam Hill needs to be back on the WC circuit right about now. Great to see Gee back up there too.
Would love to see Gee and Hill racing Minnaar again... preferably in DH, not retiree DH.:busted:

I'm fine with the boy's attitude. He's had a go at the dh boys probably because of what he perceives to be their condescencion towards enduro.

Would like to see Hill do some dh again. He has said that if he wanted to he could win again so would be interesting to see if he can.

I'm pretty sure (and I hope) that its some Belgian humour. He gets along fine with the DHers from what I've seen and when I met him in Whistler he seemed quite down to earth and chill. Fingers crossed its some lost in translation thing that makes him come across that way.

Gwin though, needs to roll with the punches and at least shake hands afterwards. That shit is weak.

Weirdly, I was actually cheering for Gee. Used to annoy me but he seems less of a tool these days and really doesn't get the respect a dual World Champion should. Bloody good effort.

Gwin going subterranean with his scrub is one thing, landing that shit into a manual is what makes it truly ridiculous.

What happened to Minnaar? He messed his qualification run and messed his race run when he usually is so dialled... does he have trouble with rain or did he hit his head too hard during practice?

I think it's just for fun.

Gee was making fun of Eddie at the last round for missing a World Cup to race the Whistler Enduro and we've heard many DH Pros stating they'd possibly consider Enduro after they retire. It's fair game that someone mainly associated with Enduro winning a World Cup rubs it in a bit with the Spirit of Enduro.

I laughed quite hard when I heard that interview.
