Appears to have a lack of bash, that chainring wouldn't last long under me.
Wait, who are you ppl riding dh bikes smashing your chainring off stuff? Something seems off...I haven't run a bashguard on my damn trail bike since 04, and we have giant logs all over the place. I run chains and chainrings which were smashed and resmashed for an almost criminal amount of time ..Am I missing something?

A steel narrow/wide ring (sram & wolftooth make them!) absolves many sins.

I've smoked my WolfTooth stainless 30t ring on the trailbike multiple times. That would've totally fucked up an aluminum ring . It keeps going.

Bonus! If SRAM direct amount is your choice...and they make it in the tooth number to suit your needs, they are super fucking cheap. Sure they're a little heavier than alu rings, but they will last *a lot* longer for less money.

How bad do BB bearings suffer when you use the chainring as a bash guard? Or no measurable effect?
Probably not great for them, but can't be any worse than when we where all using crank mounted bash rings in the past.

The once in a while nailing of it vs. intentional use that way I'm sure makes a difference.

Isn't the majority of the rider weight applied to the pedals? In which case the bearing of the BB would not see a great impact/load when bashing a crankset mounted guard

I used to run a e.13 SRS device instead of the LG-1 just because I'd rather have the force transferred to a removeable/replaceable/serviceable component than through the chainguide backplate into the ISCG tabs. I bent a bunch of LG-1 backplates and some ISCG tabs before I made that switch.

Disagree, its the absence of visor that define a gaper. Goggleless full face(with visor) riders are the equivalent of the 1990's helmetless hockey players.

I have no idea why I spent my money on this thing. I mean it's got wagon wheels, not a single piece of carbon, just above 32 lbs and a freaking bottle mount! Probably gonna implode under me very soon :D On the plus side half of the rubber has the knobs in the right order and direction, geo is quite good, apart from the god damned boost there's not much of a lizardry and they even managed to un-fcuk the leverage curve without being S, U or whatever shape you can pick and proclaim it the next best thing.
Anyway, first ride was...overwhelming, that amount of new variables made my head hurt. Climbing was efficient, but the position on the bike is very different to what I'm used, though I'll adapt quickly. Descending was strangely fun, as much as a "fun 29er" is a pure oxymoron :D I'm a ground-hugging plow type of a rider, but that thing is poppy! Being that stretched on size M/L (475mm reach@5'8") was instantly confidence inspiring. Luckily switchbacks are something a despise, so probably the long wheelbase + 29" won't be much of an issue. The curious variable is the fork, as I've replaced the lowers only, so currently the equation is 42mm offset + 65 head angle + 35mm stem. Should be interesting :)

Wolftooth remote. Bontrager XR4 2.6 and Maxxis Forekaster 2.6. Digging so far. Both are right about 2.5" on 30mm IW rims.

DHR II never going wrong. Maybe not always the best but surely not the worst choice.
Oh for sure. I've used it before and liked it very much. Have just been using other things lately.

Magic Mary 2.35 up front. Bontrager XR4 2.4 in the wings.

The "fat" set is XR4 front, Forekaster rear at the moment. Really liking that so far, after a couple rides.

Was really liking the magic Mary for quite a while but now with some time on the xr4, am finding I actually prefer it in every condition so far. Might prefer it in really deep slop/muck, but I don't tend to ride in that anyway.

I had XR4s on my bike i liked them for about a week, then it rained. Hasn't stopped raining for more than 4 days yet since and really heavy. They got scary when things get slick. A clipped DHR2 front and Dhr2 rear mostly now. The forkaster is nice when everything else packs with mud and leaves.
