where did you hear this? didn't even know they'd put in a bid. also, any sense of which date?
and yeah, it's hours from anywhere, with the only real lodging being at the top of the mountain, so big crowds will be tough. That said, I'm sure it'll draw peeps from all over the surrounding region within a 6 or 7 hour radius to watch.
7 hour drive from me. 4 from my parents place in pgh. time to start planning
I heard it from Mark Poore of Snowshoe when he posted it on his facebook page. I did not know they put in a bid either.

"It was announced earlier this week that Snowshoe won it's bid for a UCI World Cup Downhill and Cross Country race next year. The event will run from September 2nd through the 7th. The following year Snowshoe will host a Downhill race only. How exciting is this???"
It would be more representative of Snowshoe if held in June. Everyone needs to experience Snowshoe rain and mud.

Ha, I remember the first me and you went there in September after all those years going in June. Perfect weather all weekend,
and the track was super fun and even dry and loose. That was the same year we went to SS, then back home, and to Diablo the next weekend, where I proceeded to crack my DHR, and then race your bike with no practice on it. Man, I miss those days.

Meh, Snowshoe in the rain is good.

Deep woods and associated woodwork can be a bit icey, but nothing compared to a clay based hill.

Now the waiting game to gear if there is another 2019 USA venue as well?
Awe, your story is cute. Ask anyone who raced the last NORBA national at Snowshoe if they remember any gravel and no peanut butter.
Your excellent wet conditions ride on established trails came at the expense of all of us who spent years pushing the peanut butter out of the way.

Try a hill with no gravel, even on "established" trails.
Is it greasy in the woods, why yes Poindexter, that's what happens in hardwood forests.
Does the hill have a high gravel / stone content that makes it drain well, uh Yes.
Does the whole place turn into a tub of grease with a light shower, uh No.
Some hills you CAN NOT ride in the wet.
Snowshoe is NOT one of them.

Boy do I suck at riding foot cycles in teh woodz.
So where are all the world cups they're hosting on their vastly superior terrain?

If this race is on the 7th of September, that's going to put it after World Champs next year, which if the link below is correct, is on September 1st (or the weekend before that).
Hmmm. From todays GMT thread, I wonder how much of a gong show it'd be to go to Quebec to watch the race and then follow the party train down to the states.

it's not unprecedented for there to be WC's after world championships.
it also makes sense as the UCI likes to have the north america stops back to back.

Not much would make me want to drive to Mammoth for bike riding... But that would do the trick
What don’t you like about Mammoth? I love riding there, but my in-laws live in Yosemite so I can do day trips when I’m visiting.
The fact that it takes 5/6hrs to get there and I don't like to drive to ride when there's so much good ridding close to us

8 stops plus the Worlds is looking good.
The only thing I don't like is having Worlds in the middle of the Cup run.
In my opinion the World Champs should be after the WC is done, otherwise it splits focus, especially if the run for the cup is tight.
Now if only we could do something about the spacing, month+ between or back to back, can we please get a calendar and a person who knows how to read it into the room?

Sounds like for 2023 they are thinking of a mega WC with every conceivable discipline within cycling competing. Why not Whistler? It's a proven olympic venue. Pure conjecture on my part.
Looks like its gonna be a good year next year. 8 races opens things up a little bit more and punishes bad luck with mechanicals a little bit less it seems like. 3 new (or at least, newish since they haven't been races on the WC circuit for years) courses also doesn't suck. I'm pumped. Too bad its still september and we have to wait another 7 months.
