I can't imagine he's the only person out there that used to ride mountain bikes a lot and stopped for unrelated life reasons, but would get back into it if there wasn't such a steep curve of fitness level working against him.
Ya, this is just a little bit too BS. To ride a bike on flat-ish ground......with Eagle gearing.......not much of a fitness curve.

For mountain biking, the skill curve is WAAAYYYYYYY steeper than the fitness curve. And exacerbated by increased speed and weight of e-bikes.

I've said many times that it's a good thing I've been riding gnar my whole life, because I couldn't afford the learning curve. The fitness curve?? I started when I was 4, I think I could start at 64. 74. Whatever.

As point of evidence, I will point to my wife of a few years. In her early 50's, she decided to take up mountain biking to be sure I had no refuge.

I mean, to spend more time with me.

Sure, she rode a bike as kid and is pretty athletic, but never mountain biked. I built her a wicked cool purple and green show bike and I'll be damned if she didn't start riding it. About 3 or 4 months ago. And hasn't stopped. She's been to 3 lift accessed mtb parks and done blue trails. I have her wrapped in bubble wrap from head to toe and know this can't end well, but she claims she's having the time of her life.

Well. It's hard for me to argue.

My point is...fitness, on our local trails, she can go pretty slow. She can get out of breath and have to stop. She walks over a lot of roots and rocks. And hills. She's not going to be getting any QOM soon.

She seems ok with the fact that she needs to walk here and there. And maybe realizes it is a safety factor on it's own.

But pedaling is pure. No learning or fitness curve required.

NOW, if that person was using an E-bike to commute to work that would otherwise be too tough or time consuming, different deal.

I donno. Part of me wants to argue more, and try and convince you that for people who don't love to suffer, and for whom going out and riding is a fun thing not a fitness thing, pedaling and strain can be the major obstacle to overcome, and that any exercise is better than no exercise. People get to enjoy a sport that was too hard for them physically (even if it was a mental thing that they could possibly overcome), and that's a good thing, and they'll get some exercise to boot. But I think I'm mostly over the e-bike argument honestly. I think if you can't see any positives from it you're being a bit myopic, but I also don't give a shit about them enough to spend more time trying and convince you either - it's not like I have one, or intend to get one within the next few years. I don't really have a stake in the game, other than thinking it's cool that more people are riding bicycles, from fatasses like my boss rekindling his joy of mountain biking to some older doctor who's realizing there is more to life than impressing other people with expensive shit, and getting out on the trails is actually fun on the right bike.

E bikes are far from "whats wrong with the industry" far as I'm concerned. It's 95% obnoxious marketing, 4% shitty engineers, and 1% other that's wrong with the industry.

Nah... it's 100% fear 100% of which comes from ignorance... even from those who's fear stems from shit trail access legislation.

I've always thought that was one of the beauty things about biking, you get an amazing ass kicking workout AND you get to have an absolute blast doing it.

I'm just not sure how I feel about teh 'Farthing.

I would not want one, and would probably kill myself trying to ride one.
But to satisfy curiosity - a parking lot test - if I can stay on - hell yeaz.

I do like the looks, in a post-revivalist cyberpunk kinda way....

Now, if you will excuse me, I think I need a lie down.

No it's not. You're thinking of some other country, maybe Switzerland, Luxemburg, Belgium, Netherlands or maybe some states in the US?

But after watching it I wish we had.

Ssshhhhhhhhh..... There's also no such country as "Sweeden"

I thought it a little risky to give Jon or Rocko the correct country.
