Well, you gotta go with what you can stomach. I have had a bit of experience with endurance racing so I knew what I could eat.

After each lap you MUST force yourself to eat. ABSOLUTE MUST!! Whether you feel like it or not, I hope you hear my voice in your head(even though you have no idea what it sounds like).

After each lap I would eat something below:
Pasta with a little chicken breast
Bread or bagel with peanut butter
Mashed potatoes
Drink at least 16 ounces of sunny delight, or gatorade.
Also good is chicken broth or noodle soup (good for friggin morning laps)

You have about a 30 minute window when your body is best at taking in carbos and regenerating so eat right away.

Before each lap I would drink one bottle of cytomax. Depending on how far apart your lap times you may need to eat something before your lap too. Just remember the whole puke factor. Give your body about 1.5 -2 hours to digest the food before you race.

I would recommend that you don't eat bananas before you race. They are a nasty visual for other riders, when they don't stay down. :D

I made Bean and Cheese burritos for the team NUMB guys in Moab but I would not reccommend this because you might offend A LOT of riders who are behind you:p They ate PB&J, burritos, pasta etc... and they ate immediately after every lap.

I can eat em :) Heidi is lacking the sausage enzymes she needs to break down complex foods.

I eat PB&J, Bean Burritos, energy drinks and water. I slam a GU just before each lap.

Although at Moab after I wrecked my hand I kinda resorted to beer and turkey jerky

Heh, heh, heh! I've been waiting to enter my first post and that was the perfect subject. Processed banana, blech! ;)

My name probably doesn't make sense, because I wasn't able to post the picture I wanted. 100 posts? We'll see if any comedy movie fans remember who Lady Litton was.

Hardly anyone checks the 24 Hour message board. There are quite a few movie buffs in the Mountain Bike lounge, they'd know for sure.

She wouldn’t admit it but I was curious why she was so active on my puke thread.

Take all sorts of stuff, here are just a few ideas:

Tuna already mixed up for sandwiches
PB@J
Potato Salad
Meat- (anything you like sausage, burgers, chicken, turkey, lunch meat)
Fruit- bananas lots of bananas
Bagels
Junkfood- chips, cookies, donuts, crackers
5gal of water (at least)
3gal of gatorade
powdered drink mix (cytomax or what ever you like)
powerbars/clifbars/gu/etc. every type and taste
Red Bull or similar- a lot
Coffee/Pepsi- sugar and caffiene

I don't think it matters so much what you eat, you just need to keep eating.

"Schell. She is probably best known for roles as Maya in Space: 1999, and Lady Litton
in "Return of the Pink Panther."

Not movie or comedy fan, but I can use Google...

Food. If you think you can stomach, eat it. If your on a team, after your lap take a short break but then get right to eating. No more than 30 minuets after your lap/laps.
I don’t really have any recommendations on training I’ve only done one, but know the course. My goat was to do 90% of race pace each lap.
Racing on a team allows you to eat and rest after each lap. Solo is a little more difficult they go a little slower to conserve energy but do stop to eat.

Eat lot's. Personally i'd say say away from the gross greasy foods and the really heavy ones at least 3 days prior. But do start hydrating a full week before and no alochol during that period. Stay away from diet soda's too.

Ouch, no alcohol? I have never ever lived up to this although that is what is advised. Thinking back, I have always had beer the day before my 24 hour or 12 hour races! I like beer.

I routinely drink 12-18 beer the night before XC races.
I refer to it as Carbo Loading and Hydrating (light beer*) at the same time.

Tony, you were always welcome to come hang around the campfire with the Mojos....

But also on the note of what to eat for racing....

Gotta go with the lima bean casserole! Loaded with Potassium goodness. Screw bananas!

No beer!

LMAO... yeah right!!!

I've never not had a beer(s) before a race.

Now drinking a lot isn't the best idea (I know from experience), but usually it just relaxes me and helps me sleep before races.

Drinking does NOT help me sleep. I carry guilt to sleep with me and for every beer i drink i get up one hour earlyer:monkey:

It helps me sleep when I camp before races. 2 beers before bed will make me nice and sleepy. It's just that then I have to wake up in the middle of the night to go pee!!

I would do pasta pre race and bananas during the race. But then again you would never catch me putting myself through that kind torture. Fun to watch though

LD and L2B, or should I say Lady Litton: Return of the Pink Panther is it?

I sure learned a valuable lesson at 24 hours of Adrenalin regarding calorie consumption. No matter what it takes, you must have solid calories, not just fluid calories. Also, at one point, you will be repulsed by every type of food by the end of 24 hours. I puked up Spaghetti, I puked up mashed potatoes, I puked up cereal, GU, Gatorade, you name it, I puked it up. I finally was fed little pieces of Turkey, and small bowls of ceral with soy milk (easier on the tummy than regular) and was able to complete my final laps. It wasn't pretty ; Ask Heidi, she was there. BTW Heidi, countdown is on for the road bike. I've narrowed it down to 3 bikes. I'll know for sure on Friday when I get back from Oakland. Woohoo!
