Kind of excited to hear how the new Hayes perform. I never thought I'd have to put those exact words in a sentence, but here we are. What kind of bike are they going on?

Non barbed. A regular 30ml syringe. Make sure to drill a little hole above the 30ml mark into it.
Hmm that looks quite similar to the ones I have, but the "nozzle" isn't long enough/fat enough to seal in the bleed port on my MT7. Certainly not enough to create a vacuum seal.

Still no sign of the new Cura 4's being listed for sale anywhere, I've wanted to see what they would list at. I think @Nick must have acquired a knockoff set :D

Sorry, Ican't meaure the nozzle on the syringes, not at home at the moment. This set goes for about 27€ however, and includes every part you need to cut the hoses. Nothing fancy, a little pricey, but then again it works. So imo, I'd get the kit and you're ready to go.

I guess the main point is, how does the dude in the video achieve a snug fit? Just jams the syringe into the bleed port?

The $25 cycobyco bleed kit(Amazon) has O-rings and is keeping my M8000 levers going. I can get a good bleed and it will last a month. Looking forward to the Cura4 though. Especially if its rebuildable.

Anybody have experience on the newer XT BL-8020 4pot brakes vs. the TRP Quadiems? Everything I've seen about the XTs seems to indicate that weird fade/pump-up and mysterious pad contamination issues of yore are gone, and it seems like people think they modulate better than the 2pot edition despite more power. On the flip side, the TRPs sound uber-reliable but maybe less outright power, and might require a pad swap off the bat.

Seems like they're a pretty natural comparison of 2 mineral oil brakes with decent reputations, curious to hear if any of you brake nerds have thoughts.

One brake goes for 177,50€ at r2-bike, they are not in stock yet however.
A few other European shops with listings but no stock as well. Most places are also out of stock of the 2 piston curas as well so there might be a supply issue of a component common to the two, or they're doing an apple and making us wait.

The numerous questions about them on european forums from owners looks like a demand availability issue.

Amazing that a good bleed will last just a month now. How things have changed with Shimano. I remember having my brakes bled every one or two years, and I rode much more frequently then.

Mine were flawless fore 1.5 years then started to suck air. I have an old pair of xt brakes that are still fine but not powerful enough.

About the same time period for my Deore M615. However, I noticed even when it was still new that the rear would pump up a bit when it got hot. Then it got worse. The front is still fine but I replaced the rear with my old slx m665. The slx is reliable but not as powerful as the newer Deore.

Jep. It is flimsy, I know, but it works.
You could use a short tube with a fitting I guess, but they are recommending to just jam it into the bleed port.

Funnily enough just got an email from the Australian dulistributor saying they have stock, so ordered a set.

^^^That’s interesting, eBay fits being the source for sram and shimano fixes.

Sorry guys I haven’t been able to ride my bike since I put on the Hayes brakes on, got to ride a Spartan29 instead, and then weather went to shit. Hopefully soon I can get back to it and tell you about it. It’s a previous generation giant reign, it replaced my spartan, which for all its flaws I loved. I should post some pics in a more appropriate place.

I know that they're not franken-brakes, but I just got some hope pro 4s and I have to say they are the best feeling brakes I have, even without a bleed.

Brakes for this winters trailbike build.

Was thinking of the Magura MT-Trail, but then got thinking.

Cura4 up front, with a Cura2 out back.
Cheaper than either the MT Trails, or the Tech3 E4's

223 Euro for the Cura4/2
277 for MT7
282 for Cura4
286 for the Hope E4's
294 or 436 for the MT Trail depending upon how much crabon i wants.

(bike24 prices - excluding VAT)

Am I gonna die if I Cura 4-2 myself?

.... or do I move the Tech3 V4 from the DH bike to the trail-bike and then put some MT7's on the DH bike for 277 or even Cura4's for 282?

Do it! I got to try the Cura 2 and they are very solid for the amount of money they cost. A friend is running the Cura 4 and the power these deliver is enough on everything he rode so far, incl. Maribor DH track. He is 1.93 m tall and weighs around 90 kg.

Only concern may be different lever feel and throw. I for one am very quick to adjust to such differences, others may not.

Have we figured out where the random engagement generator in Shimano brakes is yet or do I have to order Curas this winter?
