It doesn't really say anything about being treated. I would guess it would have to be to get around all the regulations. New York requires it to be heat treated to a core temperature of 71°C (160°F) for 75 minutes and clearly labeled because of all the bugs. https://www.dontmovefirewood.org/map/ Living in the country I can't even imagine a need for this, but it does seem to be a thing. Apparently all the big box stores sell it too.

At least the "artist" picked a decent brand of axe rather than painting up some cheap Chinese heap of crap.
