intalling non lock-on grips?

Am I overthinking this? The indoor bike park behind my house opened for business this weekend.

I still have the used dirt jumper I bought the last time an indoor bike park opened in this town. But I realized the grips on it are double clamp lock-ons, and they hurt my hands. I picked up a pair of push-on grips in the $5 bin at a bike shop a while back (some old flanged Spanks), and figured since I have em, I may as well use em. But I haven't installed push-on grips in.... forever.

Do I need to use glue or hairspray? Or do I just clean the bar thouroughly, mist some rubbing alcohol, and use my air compressor to push them on? And then wait a day or two before riding?

Like I said, am I overthinking this?

Hairspray helps them stick a little better.

I think I've still got a can in my workshop area that I've not used in a decade since I went to all lock-ons apart from ESI's.

surprisingly enough, the technological advancements of said interface has changed absolutely zero. you simply slide the grip onto the handlebar and you're done. just like that...
yeah thanks.

I suppose I should have asked "how do I install push-on grips so they don't slide or move when in use"!!! :D

aaaaanyways, I just spritzed some rubbing alcohol on, and slid them on. I won't be using them for at least a couple more days, so I think they'll be fine. They seemed pretty solid this morning after sitting overnight.

Everyone that I know who runs non lock on grips wire tie them on both ends to help hold them in place. If you do this, make sure to tie the wire out of the way of you hand grip.

if the bar and the grip are both clean, the grips shouldn't move at all after being installed.
only problem i see is dirt getting inside the ends of the grips after a few diggers will start to make them move though. hairspray or no hairspray...

I have ODI Ruffian's on the dirt jumper and Yeti logo ODI lock ons on the RM7. The Rouge has a lot more padding than the Ruffian's and there a'int a grip made more comfy than the Oury, also lock onable.

I see no need for inferior grip technology.

It's the locking clamp. it hurts my hands. I have some RaceFace Half Nelson lock-ons on my fat bike. They are single-sided, and have little flange that covers part of the lock ring. If the push-ons don't work, I'll get something similar.

The ODI's I put on lil Mans bike have flanges. They are so damn cute, too. Little baby lock ons.

They will move. I’ve struggled with grips all my life.

Safety wire was the only sure way till lock ons came about

Aluminum grips for your carbon bars would totally solve this, especially with some water.
