In the cleavage of the Tetons
So, I owned a shop for ten years, and worked as a wrench for 20. I have worked on thousands of bikes...I have a brand new Cassette, Chain, and chainrings (9 speed, 11-32). Skips like a son of a bitch in ONLY the 11 tooth cog.
Try it Nao has been...tried.
Derailleur bscrew is perfect, spring is good (was working perfectly with the worn out cassette and chain).
Anyone?
CX bike.

How's the actual b-tension spring? Possible something in the derailleur fractured/broke when you changed it (because it was already on it's way to breaking)? I remember those old SRAM b-tension rings would break.

Is the upper derailleur pulley parallel to the cogs (eyeballing it from the back)? Maybe a tweaked derailleur hanger with nice new teeth is catching where the worn setup didn’t.

Correct chain, new cassette, new chainrings. No stiff link, only skips in the 11, no bent cogs.
It skips over the cogs like a new chain on a worn cassette or vice-versa.
There are no spacers.
Looks flexy

What brand(s) are we talking about?

Process of elimination: Try a different 11 tooth cog from a different cassette, even an old one. The skipper could have been dropped or crushed or something.

If that doesn't work sounds like a chainline/spacing issue of some kind. What frame, crank, BB, and hub? Spacing all kosher?

Everything has worked flawlessly on this rig for around 20 years, no spacing issues.
Ultegra 9 triple, chain line is perfect. XT derailleur.
It was doing the same thing when I tried a new chain on the old cassette, (only in the smallest cog) so *maybe* the derailleur, but it works PERFECTLY with the old chain and old cassette, which would be odd...

If it's the derailleur, what do I win?

Smells like there is something just off enough to show up with a new chain, but that didn't show up with the extra slop of your old chain.

How old is the derailleur? Pulleys ok?

Wait, it's a triple? You better ask Lennard Zinn.

Good luck. I did the bike shop scavenger hunt for a 9spd a few months ago. Took quite a bit of calling.

I need to refresh threads before commenting :busted:
Ya'll don't have bike swaps on your part of the flat Earth?

Cheap 10 and 9spd stuff (for my commuting drivetrain) forever!
