finally read that article. Not much to comment besides I think it's fantastic you guys are getting as much coverage that you are, that people are buying your frames the way they are and that you have been successful in collecting additional grants in addition to just selling bikes. I'm thrilled that you are able to keep making frame in the US and at the same time, they're pretty cutting edge. There's very little I would want to change on such a bike, and I can really pick a nit with the best of them. Looks like I don't need to look far for my next frame, whenever that is.

I’m not sure on the specifics of those numbers. It seems grim, but maybe that includes recreational mountain bikes (sub $2000), or encapsulates some other shrinking market.
I called in, two more weeks “maybe” for delivery of my new megatrail. Not sure what to do with my first gen megatrail. If I remember correctly it’s number 329, it may be one of a kind as I ordered it with no bottle cage nuts installed. What’s up with getting the rear triangle on the new one in raw?
No raw on the rear triangle, the purpose of only doing one powder coat color/finish was to speed things up quite a bit in manufacturing. We knew there were going to be lead times, and this helps more than you would think at keeping them moving faster through the system.

No problem. It’s pretty crazy, scaling manufacturing at this pace is a thing. When we hire the next round of folks, we may need to put a Johnny on the Spot in the parking lot. There’s almost a line for the pooper now.

And, Size 2, Ben and I have both been cranking out a number of the details to get production rolling. Bailey has been keeping up to date to give the most accurate time lines possible. Probably late April is when the first will be headed to customers. We’re behind schedule, but working on getting production going 7 days/week to get back on track.

I'm wholly unfamiliar with GG sizing as they don't exist around here, yet.
My XL nomad3 is smaller than I'd like so the XXL megatower (again need to check new fit versus HT-LT) was the plan before the smash caught my eye.
GG in a L might be just right.

Based on reviews it sounds like plush will be my go-to setup, with the shock modes set up for trail and lift/shuttle days.
My goal is to use shock to extend usable range of bike rather than a climb/descent mode etc.
For example, our VT trips often involve long trail rides in morning and shuttles/park in afternoon.
What push set ups have you seen/ridden and any suggestions?

When I got my 11-6, I talked with Darren about setting up my shock exactly like this (on a V1 Megatrail). It worked great--he suggested a digressive tune for the "trail" setting and it was great for trail riding and jump trails. The full on DH setting was actually still good for rougher trail riding, but was amazing for DH. Darren actually said this was a very common request from GG users.
Since then, I've run the same basic idea on a aluminum Shred Dogg and just got the shock rebuilt to go full strength Megatrail. Bottom line: I think this is the best use of the 11-6 and is what makes the cost and weight of the shock worth it for people with expected usage similar to ours.
do you do any lift service bike park days on it?
I will answer for him and say "nope", but there's been a buncha Pisgah days on it, and those can be as brutal as almost any lift serve place. I would also say that several of the places close to us (e.g. Baileys, Sugar, Beech) aren't super conducive to anything short of a real DH bike. You of course can ride those places on basically anything, but it would beat the amoral fuck out of you if you're riding it at pace with a Shred Dogg or similar bike. For smoother, less hectic places, I'm sure a GG MT or Smash with a 11-6 would be great...
my dh bike is largely collecting dust these days. what i'm considering is having a set of DH wheels/tires for my MT (i already have stuff to build this up) and maybe a burlier fork for lift access days. a coil shock would be a nice upgrade, but maybe a little farther down the road. sell the DH bike to fund a trail pistol.
just out of curiosity, anyone ever stick a dual crown fork on a megatrail?
