As much as I have loved my GG trail bikes, this thing embarrasses all of them for real DH. Not saying you can't ride a MT in the park, you definitely can but when we were all at Whistler @jackalope and I on big bikes made our buddies on a Smash and a Spartan pretty sad.
While I'm at it, @mtg Make us another DH bike.

I rode my Scout with 125mm of rear travel at Bromont last year. Your GG can do it, just send it.
If you're not smashing rocks at pace constantly, I think it would be great. And to Ed's point, probably the most dangerous riding I do is in Pisgah--fast, rough, not professionally marked/maintained and far from help if you go down. The MT has mitigated many, many bad decisions out there. I think tough wheels, DH rubber at least in the rear and 8 inch rotors and you could get some real work done pretty much anywhere.
i have a set of 823's i'd lace up, would use DH tires, and would consider adding cush core. i did race DH once upon a time so i still like to get kinda smashy

Very much so. My standard work week is 6 days long, and sometimes 7 days. We're full throttle on scaling manufacturing capacity.
The only reason I'm waffling is the climbing ability. I tend to just adapt to whatever bike I'm riding. I thought I'd never ride a bike better than my SB66, then I got my N3. Apparently the N3 cannot climb without an enduro donkey, but I seemed to manage just fine around here. I'd love a bike that descended just as well but climbed even better.
I’m in same boat, but with megatrail vs smash. Love my n3 but my friend says the n4 is more better and eliminates the n3 shortcomings.

I've demoed a Mega Trail, have ridden my buddies N4 and own a Bronson V3 - larges on the SC bikes and medium in the MT. The geometry felt pretty different between the GG and SC bikes. Compared to a current gen SC the MT felt like it had a shorter back end and longer/taller front end. Depending on what you like that could be exactly what you're looking for.
How tall are you? At least with the GeoAdjust headset, the sizing gaps are half as big.
The cool thing with the GG Megatrail is you can aquire the frame, build it with your Nomad parts or 275 build-kit, then keep an eye out for a 29er fork/wheelset cheap and modify the bike to the Smash with just the seatstay kit later down the track.
