Some interesting pre season victories:

Bulldog at Crankworx Rotorua
Loris at Windrock Pro GRT
Gwin - Fontana (does this count?)
Martin fvcking Maes schooling everyone in EWS #1 on a mullet bike!!
Pierron??

Very interesting season ahead. Can't wait to see how an injury free Gwin stacks up against Maes and Pierron.

Pierron seems to be still on a heater. He beat Hart and Gee in Lousa today.
Is there a results list floating around? Can't find anything about the Lousa race other than a few insta videos. Good to hear Pierron is back on top.

EDIT: results

Glad to see some excitement outta WC DH. I feel like the past few years it's just been bigger wheelsizes. Those robot bikes are cool and cannondale always does the Sasquatch camera thing with their prototypes, which is almost entertaining for a few minutes.

Pinkbike in all its trashy glory. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, they publish this tabloid shite.

That’s not to excuse DUI but as Rennie is hardly even on the periphery of the MTB industry these days, this is just cheap clickbait and doesn’t pass the public interest test. The guy obviously has his demons, let him sort them out privately.

Rennie's still only 37!!

Wow!

I'd forgotten how young he was when he threw it all away.

To be fair, the dude had a string of injuries towards the end, supposedly shafted by Morewood and if the most recent news is anything to go by, probably some other stuff going on as well. Does make you appreciate the lengthy careers of Peaty and Minnaar though.

he was on the the inside line podcast back in january and it sounded like a large driver of it was sponsorships falling through.

I'd bet money Rennie could come off the couch and still finish in the top half at a WC.

I can't believe he's the same age as me. He's so fast and has accomplished so much, I'm so slow and have accomplished so precious little. We both got fat though.

Imagine becoming world champion or overall winner of the world cup on a bicycle that so obviously barely fits the rider. The entire Syndicate were way too tall for their frames during that era, it's downright awkward to watch.

And those narrow bars.... just looks silly

Have you tried riding an old bike with 640mm bars? 800mm is clearly too wide, but WTF were we thinking? How did it take as long as it did or somebody to ask, "what if we made them wider?" and realized wide bars/short stems was the only way to go?
That's a good question. Looking at it from 2019, the rate of innovation in the mtb industry seems to have been painfully slow to get where we are now.

The slack HA and steep ST (for trail bikes) seems like another relatively obvious aspect of bike geometry that should have appeared much earlier if a competent engineer would have bothered thinking about it.
