I bought my first house (life before wife) and rented the other two rooms out. Then we I got married, we rented a room out up until 2 months before my second was born (to the same dude, he actually moved with us to our new house). It's definitely one of the reasons we've been able to get ahead. I'm going to encourage both my kids to do the same. We'd probably still rent if we had the room, especially a detached space. My brother has a small 1bd/ba behind his detached garage that he rents out for like $800 a month. If you do your due diligence and pick the right tenants, it's easy money.

We had one of those a few years ago when I was at JPM still. I laid it all out (I'm ADA, fire me) from both what myself and others had issues with. About a month later there were a bunch of HR mandated policy changes, a few managers were let go, and comp changed because of the conversations. Sometimes you just gotta say fuck it.
Will be worth it for the long game to have $1M plus in equity by the time we retire. Even better, roommate wasn't home 90% of the time.

Yea all of OC is 1.1% AFAIK. Our lot is like 9000 sq ft, which is pretty good size. One of these days we’ll move and buy acres. I’d leave now if I could.
I'm just giving you crap. I'm glad I left socal while I could. It's nice there for sure, but cost of living is insane.
