Whatcha think of that new Deluxe Ultimate? I saw a post on GG's IG about it, intrigued.

Also, how's production going? Still looking at June for Size 4s? :brows::brows:

I've always thought the Deluxe RT punched above its weight, as it is the lightest, least expensive option in the builders. And, there never was a huge difference between Deluxe and Super Deluxe. The Deluxe Ultimate seems to ride pretty similar, it was hard to pick out any large differences vs the Deluxe RT, other than additional external tuning. The new benchmark for us in air shocks is the Fox DPX2, which is popular around the shop. Compared to the DPX2, the Deluxe RT rides stiffer near the top stroke, but does better than most people would expect handling large chunky rocks with mid to deep stroke hits. I haven't ridden it yet over high speed, high frequency terrain.
So, if you want the lightest option that still deals well with chunky hits, and are ok with or prefer a firmer top stroke feel, it's a good option. If you want an air shock to feel as close to a coil sprung shock as possible, get the DPX2.

Size 4 tooling is coming down the pipeline. Size 2 is about to go online. Bailey is constantly bugging us to make sure he's giving people the most accurate estimates possible. I think you were pretty early on the Size 4 deposits, so you'll be near the front of the line. If we can keep things moving quickly, end of June for the first Size 4's is likely.

There is no more size small. Sizing nomenclature on mountain bikes has always been a bit odd, and has recently changed quite a bit. Switching to size numbers based on rider height and preferences made more sense.

Size 2 is for people approx 5’3” to 5’9”. Size 3 is for approx 5’8” to 6’2”.

Yes, we tried that one, and it really didn’t have any advantage over the DPX2 except 4 way damper adjust (which is overrated, imo), and it runs lower air pressure. But, our leverage ratios are lower than average, so the air pressure advantage is only for people around 250lbs+.
Essentially, more expensive, heavier, doesn’t ride any better than the DPX2, so we didn’t put it in the option list, but rather opted for the coil spring version, DHX2. That one is good.

Totally off base. It has annodized round things that look high tech, plus is costs more so is obviously superior.

@mtg According to Bailey I'm in the third batch of Size 2s... approx how many frames per batch? I have a big bike park trip up and down the East Coast in beginning of June... any chances I would be able to take the GG??? Its just a frameset order.

Interesting. I really like the X2 (agreed on the double rebound adjusters being unnecessary, but it's a good shock). I haven't got much time on a DPX2, and none on a familiar bike that I've set up myself, but if it's close to the performance of the X2 but lighter and cheaper, that does sound pretty sweet.

I bought the X2 for my bike mostly out of fear of getting a bad tune and being locked into it with non-adjustable shocks. I haven't twiddled my knobs since I bought it, but I could never get my RS monarch to feel right on the Evil, and there were only two shocks available for that bike. I never thought I would need to bother, but I couldn't live with either way too much damping or nowhere near enough, the only two settings on the bike. I suppose I'd put more trust into GG's judgement, but the weight penalty was worth it for me to know I can change my tune if it just doesn't work for my riding style out of the box.

Question for you @mtg : The bike I currently ride has a reach of around 460. That puts me on a size 2, long flavor. Based on your assessment, I should be on a size 3 by height (5'11", short for trail long for rail). What's your recommendation for somebody who only rides tight trails- smaller size to keep wheelbase in check, or longer reach with a shorter stem to get on your level?

I cannot deal without having the ability to adjust Compression in both HS and LS settings. I will pay the extra $100 or so for that ability. Basically the overlap is so dramatic, that it's really only effective at the very, very, very beginning and very, very, very end of the stroke (like the 1st and last mm). But CC (and the Fox since they hired a guy from CC) made it mainly for marketing benefits.
This. I ride the DHX2 with fast rebound closed.

5'11" -> Size 3. For tight trails, short position on the GeoAdjust, and probably one of the shorter travel bikes (Trail Pistol or Shred Dogg), as those are also shorter in the back end.

5'11" -> Size 3. For tight trails, short position on the GeoAdjust, and probably one of the shorter travel bikes (Trail Pistol or Shred Dogg), as those are also shorter in the back end.
@Sandwich i'm in a similar boat in terms of what i want. fwiw i'm a little taller than you, and will be getting my grubby mits on a trail pistol once i get some finances sorted. gonna take longer than expected due to lawyer fuckery.

I also work for the FDA reviewing orthopedic implants so have read some of your posts with more interest than others may have ;-) We also raced DH in this area in the same time frame so I also have a feeling that we may have encountered each other IRL before but I've never been able to deduce enough info to tell.

Our plan is to hit Highland, Mountain Creek, Timberline, Blue, Bryce, Snowshoe, and Seven Springs. Word on the street is that Blue and/or Bryce may not be worth the effort so we might go out to Deep Creek--while not a bike park, apparently there is an area with some really good trail riding.

massanutten might be worth a look...and if you can extend it down to nc you’ve got bailey, beech, and even sugar
