Here is my latest hack-job. On the drive-side, I accidentally bumped the stays twice with a metal hatchet, which had some obvious delamination on one of the hits. Yeah, like freak WTF moment. Friend said he had some CF so I figured, what the hell. Got some resin and hardener, laid it up, sanded it, put some clear-coat on it. We'll see what happens, but there's a few more layers in that spot. Was in the full on ebola suit with respirator and goggles.

Coolest post here for a long while. I love shit like this. Lets see if I got this straight a Wolf was chasing you. So you fended him off with Axes. Over the course of your defensive action. You dropped your Axes and like Kieth Hernandez' loogie, they somehow hit your chain stays repeatedly after changing direction midair somehow? After you sell your miraculous story to the Newspaper and CNN you can then afford a new bike. We might have to chop off your pinky toe to backup your story. Really you don't need it as much as a new bike.

Right? I don't know what Kidwoo's problem is. Saw that damn Fox arch away and wrap some carbon and make your own custom 36.

These were just cosmetic layers to cover everything. The real work were strips that I wrapped in opposing helix's around the damaged section.

A metric crapload of sanding.

I’m not an axe murderer.
Are you sure?

I do like your DIY approach though. Judging by the chainstay width, I'm guessing it's one of your fatbikes that you ride in deep snow running away from a pack of wolves, not something you slap into berms on daily basis just for shitz and giggles. I'd feel safe riding it.

Stick it to the Lizzard.

P.S. Be sure to update if it holds up (and my guess is it will, so long as you don't get mauled by them predatory animals).

I firmly maintain 2 Axes where involved, or some kind of other shenanigans,Wolves are surely capable of shenanigans....

Well if I was, I would probably lie about it.

Some of the winter trails do have berms and jumps though, not to mention DH races.
Can you get a picture of those Wolves next time they attack your bike with Axes while racing DH?

JM,

Looks great. How did you compress the carbon fiber during layup? For easy to reach spots like that, I've found wrapping electrical tape really tight works well, and doesn't stick to the resin.

That's what I had planned to do, that's what I do when I force some resin in a spot, but I ended up using a roller device to push air out. I think the electrical tape would have worked, you'll be sanding off a bit anyways.
