Anyone have a good route of notable trails through Rothrock, where to park, any tips etc? Is TrailForks complete and accurate?

Have had to modify plans for the week of DirtFest --> https://ridemonkey.bikemag.com/threads/dirtfest-2019-may-17-19th.281185/

Also open to any other suggestions for riding in the area. We'll be camping out of Raystown on Tuesday. Probably have Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday and Thursday to ride in the area.

We're also leaving Raystown on the Monday. So open to anything on the way back North in PA or NY that is quick off the road. Is there riding in Allegheny?

This is the general route we'll be taking there and back...

i don't believe there's any riding worth noting in allegheny national, however its an awesome place to hike and camp. i spent a ton of time there as a kid. glacial deposited boulders the size of houses.

Merli Sarnoski in Carbondale is much more accessible and way more fun then Rothrock. Its a few miles out of the way however... Ontario County Park in Naples NY is kind on the way home for you also.

Allegheny has dirt roadie trails. ANF has atv trails you can ride. Since the forest is being fracked you will be confronted by their service trucks 24/7.

Depends what you're looking for on riding, lots of singletrack around there linked by dirt roads for the endurance races.

Wilderness 101 goes through there and one of the hardest races I did years ago was the Stoopid 50 which was a tonne of singletrack in that area.

It's also one of my favorite places I've camped.

This should keep you busy:

I have ridden Coopers Gap twice, would do so again. It's about 1:15 northeast of your campground.

Jake's Rocks trail system in Allegheny NF is awesome and a must ride. A modern trail system with a good mix of flow, features, and tech.

Ellicottville NY has great trails too, with more of a classic XC vibe but fairly technical.

Thanks. Jake's Rocks looks interesting and could split up the drive on the way down nicely...

We were thinking somewhere in Ellicotville too, as its pretty much on the road on the way down/up. From driving by in the past, could probably camp out somewhere for free if needed too...

So you have been riding in the rain with thousands of other folks at Raytown. After all that on the way home you're going to stop and ride Coopers Gap? I remember that climb up Tussey to get into the valley and then climb back out to get to your car, of which you will have to get into and drive back to Canada. Garbage Plates are not available in PA for the most part.

Ellicotville has Ellicotville Brewing for great food and beer. Bills Bar in East Aurora is also on the way home.

Yeah I think we're leaning towards riding Ellicotville one day and the Coopers Gap route that @6thElement posted the next.

Ellicotville being literally on the way with food and beer helps a lot with the decision.

Suggested loop seems to make you climb Tussey Ridge Trail... was so awesome riding down. Some good stuff in Rothrock but some less flowy rocky stuff, think hiking trails open to bikes. I have been only once and I lacked local knowledge.

@Jozz thanks for mentioning Tussey Ridge.

I went up and back down it this afternoon. What an absolute blast of slow tech, fast rocks and even some flowing meadows. Would 10/10 bang again.

Headed to Rothrock for a few days again before "DirtFest" and will be camping at the same site on Bear Meadows road.

Anyone ever ridden up Long Mountain Trail and down Detweiler Run trail? Looks like it could be a nice loop right from the campsite and end with a 5km downhill, right to the beer.

https://www.trailforks.com/ridelog/planner/view/91660/

Also going to show the old man this Tussey Ridge loop. Had a blast on that trail - https://www.trailforks.com/route/beer-tap-ridge-loop/
I must make my way out there again. So much to explore.
