Oh, forgot to mention the -1.5° Works Comp headset I'm running. That helps too. But more on the parts I go riding for.

so this is cool...... any one remember Teva's foray into MTB shoes? apparently a company called Unparallel Sports bought the molds and tooling from Teva and is ready to release their own product:

https://www.pinkbike.com/news/sunday-randoms-sea-otter-2019.html
Their West Ridge model (58-63a) is apparently as sticky as five ten free rider pros. And the Dust-up model has stickier rubber (45-50a).

hey at least tag me so I can back up my bitching!

my comment wasn't that fixing the seat angle wasn't worth it, but rather than even after fixing it, the Evil was still not as good a bike as some others. Mostly let down by the shock, but there were some other issues. My current bike is extremely similar but better in many essential ways.

I got the Fizik THAR VS. Listed as a 29er specific saddle, which is dumb:
https://bikerumor.com/2014/07/29/review-fizik-thar-29er-mountain-bike-saddle/

This is the exact one I got, though not from here:
https://www.deporvillage.net/saddle-fizik-thar-vs-mg-black-red

Basically the rails drop more vertically from the end of the saddle, so the effective mounting adjustability is improved by like 10mm. The saddle doesn't really have a shorter tail as much as it just lets you slide it further forward. As for the saddle itself, it's decent. It's not as nice as my selle italias nor WTB silverado ti, but those are pretty nice saddles. It's pretty rigid, doesn't flex much, but it's comfortable with a chamois and doesn't numb my taint. I prefer a little bit of flex in my saddles for comfort, but there isn't much to complain about here. I was able to get my saddle actually too far forward on my Evil, which I couldn't do with the WTB. I no longer need the saddle on my BMC, but it's pretty and I have no reason to ditch it.

Their previous iteration was single speed, so this one is an improvement?
But the other bike is a DH bike with a 49 on it. Single speed DH bikes are a thing. I can't explain this bike though.

Tired of being able to pedal your enduro bike? Good! We made this one high pivot for extra friction and took away your granny gears!! Now you can be under gunned at the bike park and still have to push the bike up all the climbs!

eh, it's his personal toy; perhaps he doesn't need the range for his local riding. could just as easy toss an eagle in there.

that said, holyfuckingshit i want this bike.

Exactly, stop focusing on the 5 speed. You could put a normal wheel and cassette on there if you wanted to.

I have an inexplicable affinity for steel, and love the look of his bikes, but his prices are reaching into full custom territory. Considering that guys like Walt include parts at cost, the full custom route looks pretty attractive.

I dunno. I could see 5 gears being plenty for DH park riding. Single speeds work OK, but sometimes you want range. I know I certainly don't need 10 speeds or whatever is on the back of my bike. I'm just too lazy to do anything about it. For a while I ran 8 speed and that was great, but I could probably get away with even less.

Bought some xx1 "12spd" cranks for my 11spd weight weenie bike to replace the cracky Next SLs. Didn't know if the PF30 axle would fit in the BB92 BB, but didn't really care, because they share the exact same axle specs. Nope, didn't fit, too long, removed the labeled "Do Not Remove" bolts and pressed out the axles, switched the RF to the SRAM cranks. I don't know if this is even possible on the newest boostdubcinch, but for these, it works like magic.

The only issue with this is that the last time I did it, there was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake the next day.

Odd you write that, Superstar have just started designing a newer version of the Shinburger pedals.
Saw that yesterday on their site and wondered. Why?

Surely everyone knows by now a decent concave, flat platform edges and 5 (or 7) pins per side is all any good flat pedal needs? Not 100 sharp pointy machined contours.

because hipster nostalgia. duh. they’re probably also gravel-specific.

It's nice to see they aren't just taking shots at Hope like they used to, never understood that.

Also I agree with the lower pin count, on any set I get I leave the front and rear ones in an rip the rest out, all they do is reduce the concave feeling.

Yah, but they're not trying to create an amazing pedal. It's a nostalgic trip....

"On a boring rainy weekend, we finally finished this design which was lurking on our laptop for the last decade! In tribute to the Brooklyn Machine Works pedals we all lusted after back in the day, we have had a bit of fun making our take on this classic. You looking for performance? Your in the wrong place, get yourself over to a set of Nanos! But if looking fly is your thing you need to get these in your life.

5 axis CNC machined out of a solid hunk of the finest aluminium for your pleasure.

Weight? - Plenty

What more can we say but huck to flat…"

I blame the weather in the UK. too much time inside staring at bike porn on your computer instead of riding.

Shinburgers are a prime example of looks cool but functions terribly.

And I don't even think they look cool.

they should give it a more appropriate name, like the shin-haggis.

OE parts.

Not all of them, but some. The bar, stem and seatpost (fixed height) might not be the latest carbon, but they're reliable and reasonably weighted too. Rear hubs? Well that's a different story. But front hubs? I rarely hear of issues. Why buy a $200 hub shell with sealed bearings when the OE one is practically the same thing but a little heavier?
I do believe that some OE stuff is still good enough to be used by serious riders until they want/need to replace it from wear.
