Hopefully you are smarter than attempting to drag a moose. Best to quarter it up and take it a piece at a time. It isn't going to foul at all if you do it right. First step is getting it cut up and packaged.
Dont be afraid to cut the quarters down either, get them split up so they cool faster.
True story. Winter here makes for easy harvest
You are worried about moose meat becoming foul but you are good to go with elk? Takes just as long to move elk out and same conditions, if not worse. Best elk hunting is done while it is still hot out.
You are missing out if someone offers you proper processed moose meat. I get not liking bear, or wild bird, I usually end up taking a few grouse while elk hunting....easy take with the bow. I dont get liking wild Turkey though, they are mostly grease and dark meat. I do understand not wanting to ever butcher a frozen hog again though
No way. Moose hunting is way harder than people give credit. As far as meat quality..... it's all about where you take one and what its eating, just like any other animal. Whitetail off the corn fields are amazing, white tails off the Colorado wild.... eating scrub and sage????? Garbage...
I run into Moose on the trails about 10 times a year, I could kill most of them with a slingshot. (Exaggeration, but they don’t. Fucking. Move.)
Add about 40 miles to that for a moose.
Should have your truck ready with coolers full of ice ready. Most hunts, you are no more than three miles back if you move quite and with purpose.
Wait till you run into a bull during hunting season..... get ready to run and take cover. Or a cow with a calf......
Ran Into what looked like a two year this morning
I'm probably going to see like 5 moose in a few hours when I go riding. All I'd need to do is take my .44, they are too dumb to move (and I didn't even look at rideit's post first).

If you are literally running into them, then yes, but it's not like they come at you from 500 feet away or anything.
It is exactly that. We have been charged by bull moose from 500 yards before. Had one come across the Madison river, had one decide to come after me in my tree stand...... they can be mean ass muthers.
Moose are rutting during hunting seasons,l. Bull moose become very territorial. They go after anything they see as a threat
Well you have hybrid attack Meese evidently. Even during the rut, they don't seem to care about people here unless you enter a 50 foot radius or so.
