If you guys have the legs the "big loop" is a great sample of that area.
An alternate works be nice kitty>little scraggly loop> shinglemill >cold beer

How long are you guys gonna be in Colorado yet? Let us know if you make the front range for some local rides beer food and shenanigans.
We're in CO all summer but I'm not sure we'll get any closer to Denver.

Mornin!

Wife's b-day today, so I shall take her to breakfast and do my best to be the doting husband that I am not. This includes sitting here in bed nearly motionless cause I'm awake and shes not.

Otherwise, the time draws near to pack up our moving truck and begin the trek. Old man flies in on Wednesday to accompany me for the journey.

Jesus from Dell just helped me open a warranty case for this dead laptop.

Now for cofffffffffffffffffffffffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Almost got passed on the trail yesterday by a dude with vertical bar ends. Couldn't let that happen, so spent all my energy giving it the beans on that trail. Over inflated tires didn't help with getting around the corners... Phew, that was a close one.

It's actually too hot for Buff Crik right now. If you can shuffle your schedule, I'd stay in the high country and time BC for a cooler stretch.
It seems hot everywhere, so we'll just ride early. Our trailer is 4 season so it stays coolish.

Sad end to a good weekend. Last minute decision to see a Nirvana tribute band Friday night resulted in much alcohol consumed and good times with 10 friends. Saturday night Dinner and seeing The Connells resulted in another late night and much alcohol consumed. While doing my cooking on Sunday afternoon, my wife shows me a news article about a friend of ours who was in a jet ski accident on Lake Wedowee, in which he lost his life and his daughter lost a leg. Very bummed this Monday morning.

Morning Monkeys.

What a weekend, wish it was still going. Got the truck to the campsite without issues even after sitting in rush hour traffic doing 5mph, ugh. While the site wasn't ideal, it was a solid beta test and a huge success. Also found lots of other potential sites along the way.

Work is for suckers.

In a van.... down by the river
Know anything about the riding around Fairplay? We could swing by there first.
Sheep Creek. Kenosha CT is fairly close. Also - Breck is *just* over the pass from Fairplay. And then Vail is quite close at that point.

Srsly - if it's going to be mid- to high-90's down here on the plains, Buff Crik is going to be pretty brutal-ish, although can be mitigated by early start as you obviously know.

Oh - when you get to Summit County, can you do Copper -> Searle and let me know how the snow situation is approaching Searle? :D

Sheep Creek is 436% worth your time. Like, maybe "you're messing up at life if you don't ride it" levels of worth your time. Okay... not that level, but it's awesome.

Gold Dust is close. I think @6thElement has ridden it both ways.
I have only ridden Gold Dust in the "down" direction, and it's super fun. One could out-and-back it, or make it a loop by pedaling up Boreas Pass road... which is a dirt road and therefore kinda sucky but also maybe fine?

I guess may

I guess maybe more around Jefferson, CO
Jefferson and Fairplay are really close to each other, only like 15-20 miles apart? And honestly, I hear the CT from Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass is riding as an out-and-back... also highly worthy of your time. Not sure how high up you can get right now, but this is a many more betterer option than Buff Crick IMNSHO... I echo what @SkaredShtles said about staying in the high country.

This. Fackin' BRUTAL temps at Buff Crick... not a lot in the shade there due to historic fires. Lots of burn area. But also... if you DO go, Charlie's Cutoff > something (Honestead?) > Sandywash is the most funnest descendy mix of trails there. Blackjack if you want low-speed tech with high consequences.

Oh - when you get to Summit County, can you do Copper -> Searle and let me know how the snow situation is approaching Searle? :D
Check the CTR Facebook group... lots of CT reports coming in from all over the state since the grand depart of the CTR is starting in a couple of weeks.

Oh - and I forgot to add - it's totally worth doing an out-n-back from Long Gulch on the CT out to Lost Park campground. The gradual DH from the top of the saddle to the campground is just so much fun.

Parking here.
This one I don't think I know... but I was gonna suggest also riding the CT from Kenosha heading east as an out and back... it has some fun sections. Super pretty in the fall, spring would probably be awesome as well.

Oh - and if you climb the CT to Georgia Pass, can you head down West Jefferson trail and let me know how it is? :D
The only reason I didn't also suggest this is... there's usually downed trees on that bad chicken until August in a low- snow year... it's gonna be murderous this year methinks.

Oh, and I've been thinking... you know what else is basically "on the way" from Salida area to Buffalo Creek? Why... this ride right here is practically on the route!

Seriously, @Heidi... there's enough riding between Salida and Buffalo Creek to keep you busy for most of this week. And then, it'll be the weekend and you don't want nothin' to do with Buffalo Creek no how anyways. :D

Yeah - this is a variation that involves the far east section before you hit the Wilderness Area along the N. Fork of Lost Creek. Bonus points for riding it the extra mile-ish to the campground at the end of the valley. Also ends with a pretty fun descent right to the car.

Shhhh... why do you think I suggested they do it? We need a 1st-hand report. :D

Dude - bust my chops and then suggest this ride?
