I thought 35mm bars were the new trend. Yet I had a hard time finding a DM stem that was 35. I'm seeing new bikes (ie. Mojo HD) with 31.8 still. Was this a trend like flat bars on DH bikes? Is the 35mm dead?

I find the 35mm bars on my newest MTB horribly stiff, would rather stick with 31.8.
Jenson has a ton of both.

35mm is the Boost of handlebars, nobody asked for it and even when it might work for some, it isn't a universal solution. And I say this with a 35mm bar/stem combo on my bike.
When I Google it I get a ton of stuff to pop up, but when I click on them most show up as 31.8

Even when I Goggle "35mm direct mount stem", most (not all) that come up are 31.8 when you click on them. I'm not going to lie, I initially wanted an orange one. But that didn't exist in 35. So black was fine. When you go to the links that pop up for 35mm dms 95% seem to be 31.8. I guess I figured this was one of those things The Industry™ would force on us.
Point is, if I stuck with a 31.8 bar, I'd have a ton more choices.

While we're at it, whats up with $100+ for these things? Others are in the $40 range like the Funn that I bought.
I think what you're actually seeing is Google's inability to decipher that you are looking for a 35mm bar clamp stem and not a 35mm length stem.
I'm sure there are way more 35mm length stems of the smaller variety which is why you're seeing the search skewed in that direction.
My suggestion is to try it now, again. Computers are dumb, except the ones with le-tits.

I found my first 35mm bar to be very flexy, the second one is properly stiff and is a much nicer shape.
With the extra rise trend of late a larger diameter has to beneficial for resisting rotation at the clamp doesn't it?
As this thread is already pretty stupid, I would like to take it a bit more off track-
Seems to me high rise bars are coming back because some bike companies like the look of shorter headtubes with integrated headsets and they run one or no spacers and set the seat at the same height as the grips.
How many people run an Enduro with one spacer and a low rise bar?
For every 10mm spacer you add you'd be knocking off almost 4mm on something like a Stumpy Evo.
I wonder what the effective STA would be when this is set up for an average rider with the seat at full height?
My 35mm OD aluminum bars work fine. I’ve never experienced a handlebar that’s too stiff. That isn’t to say that 31.8 or 25.4 even was holding me back because of flex.

RaceFace SixC 35mm. Which strangely enough gets a lot of complaints for being too stiff, but it's the Little Bear Porridge for me. Run 'em on all my bikes, and combined with Chromag Squarewave grips my arm pump has dropped to zero.
Interesting tidbit on the grips. They look great and I like the integrated end cap.
Going to have to order some. Might be time to finally move on from the ODI Crosstrainers.

SixC in 31.8. I never think about the bars...so that means they are good?

Like the others here, I've been running SIXC bars for years now, in 31.8 at first and then in the last two generations (including current) of 35mm. No problems and very happy with them, and I've found there is a positive improvement in stiffness + improved control as a result (compared to alloy 31.8), while comfort hasn't really changed. I've kept the same fork/wheel/frame/etc between the changes.
I found it much easier to find 35mm stems and bars both, though I didn't really ask or care for it initially like slimshady. After running both setups for a while though, I'd say at least for my preferences, I do marginally prefer the 35mm - possibly because I still run wider (800) bars which get a bit flexy in the lighter 31.8mm options.
More importantly, google isn't a search engine anymore. I recommend using literally anything else.

Yes, I've had them on my trail bike for a few years with their 50mm stem. I like them a lot.
To continue the derail, I personally like shorter headtubes and seatubes. They allow people to make a purchase based on reach/tt length and not worry about ending up with a super tall headtube.
And isn't the Evo a bit of an outlier due to its super slack HA? With most bikes you're not losing that much by adding a spacer or two.
But yeah, as far as effective vs. real STA, the struggle is real. That said, loving my 210mm dropper post on the Megatower.
About normal, I probably get a season of hard riding on the gravity oriented machine, or 3-4 on the more XC bikes. Neither bombproof nor flimsy.
That's what I used before the SixCs, mostly because you can get them in 12 degree back sweeps. Bars are fine, felt like a high quality piece of kit, and the geometry worked on my older bikes, but not so well on the newer ones.
I'd have no qualms about their performance, but I can get the RF bars for like half the price, and they seem to work.
