In the rest of the world, The hilux/ranger/bt-50 are 1 ton trucks (manufacturer spec). I have driven a hilux with a 1 ton payload without much hassle actually. I´d say they are adecuately equipeed for that (Mazda/Ford even say they can carry up to 1.2 ton)
