Seems that the rattling was caused by not having the lockout knob installed, it fell on the first ride and was without it for a couple of rides. After the replacement knob was installed and the bike ridden the rattling went away.

Just got one, all I can say is that for the price is hard to beat it. For less than a grand no other brand will give you hydro brakes (most do mechs) and 9 gears.
The ride is smooth, climbs well and descends even better. Future upgrades will be crankset, air fork (will happen when they break)...

For flats +1 on the 5.10s but any skate shoe will do.
For clipless, Exustar and Specialized have entry level shoes that work really well and affordable.
