if you are going to try to true the wheel only tighten the spokes by 1/4 to 1/8 rotations at a time because a little adjustment does a lot on those wheels.
most all DH bikes have a lot of XC parts on them, like saddles, posts, derailleurs, shifters, etc.
i would recommend sticking to the brands that you are already loyal to on the XC bike. if you like rock shox on the XC bike then go a boxxer on the DH bike, if you like shimano on the XC bike...
question, the Blue Mountain, NY you are thinking about visiting on August 20th, is this the same Blue Mountain that is in Peekskill, NY??

the race at platty starts out as a slalom course, then after a few turns it becomes a dual course. that is the closest i think you'll get to a 4X course around here.
the pedals are VERY nice. for 2007 atomlab installed rubber preload rings to preload the bushings instead of metal wavy washers that had a tendency to flatten out.
the pedals spin on bushings instead of cartridge bearings that most all other pedals use. bushings are able to support pedal loads...
