Detectives bust bike theft ring
Sentinel staff report
CAPITOLA - Detectives broke up a stolen bike ring Friday after getting a tip about
a stolen mountain bike that sold on eBay for $1,700.
Capitola police detectives Mark Gonzalez and Kai Drechsler portrayed...
that breaking the law bit, i think that's what they call an "externality". basically a corporation let's the general public, who is not part of the business transaction, pay for all the fall out and f- up **** that results, pollution, higher cost of living, etc, while the company gets the...
since when has northstar ever been crowded? i remember like one or two days tops each season that could be considered crowded. opening weekend, and occasionally on a race day, rarely. other than that, they're never crowded, not even on weekends. and weekdays, there's nobody. i never...
hah. that's funny. yeah, the course required base jumping off the knarly "step down of death" cliff section, so knarly.
maybe they meant 10,000 inches. all in all, i'd say they did a pretty good job with the course. it was interesting.
if you're worried about your bike, and you think you'll want to check out some of the more challenging expert trails, then yes, renting might be a good idea. northstar eats bikes for breakfast.
it all depends on the kinds of trails you're going to ride. if you stay on the blue trails, it...
don't listen to the hype. no you don't need to rent a dh rig. if you want to hit all the expert runs, a dh rig is nice, but not required. and in any case, there's tons of trails there. even the double black trails, there can be quite a bit of variation from not that hard to very hard in...
i'll be there this weekend. white foes fly. there's not that many white foes flys out there, so if you see one, there's a good chance that's me. you know the drill.
damn dude, that sucks. you're lucky you didn't break your foot. my sister did that once. she was riding with flip flops on pavement, foot slipped into the front wheel, crunch! hospital.
as far as the shoes, i just got a pair of 510 impact shoes w/ super sticky rubber from go-ride.com...
Although I hesitate to say never, if they're smart, they would never do that. Mountain biking is part of the portfolio of activities they offer, making them a year round destination resort. Not counting Whistler, they have probably the best bike park on the west coast (there's not that many of...
Let me guess... They subtracted 30 seconds off of everyone's 2nd run?
It's funny how the fast time on the beg/sport course was, what, oh about 45 seconds faster than the fast time for the Team Big Bear race, on the exact same course. The Team Big Bear race had the finish just a little bit...
What mvrider said. As you approach the section, rolling over the rotten log gives you a straight line between the tree and rock as you enter the steep part. I haven't ridden it yet though, it's still on my to-do list. My friend tried it and crashed on his first attempt, then took the line...
I honestly don't care that much about the timing. I like the races. I just wish they'd change the course once in a while.
I don't doubt that Northstar could do a lot of things better, but it's definitely a very good thing to have a lift served mtb park in the area that doesn't totally...
karpiel, speed control, lower pho dogg, karpiel/daytona berms, finish line at stadium jump. experts are usually on the same course, except instead of the long flat over to lower pho dogg, they take slabs, vietnam, etc.
i started racing last year, and so far that's been the beg/sport course...
cool. i didn't know the n* series was 4 races. that makes a total of 5 including last weekend's cal state race.
i know probably no one is listening, but i wish just for once they would change the beg/sport course and throw us something a little different. racing the exact same course...
santa cruz is not far from monterey, and it has a lot of good options for both surf and bike. in monterey all i know about is fort ord, nice singletrack, but mostly xc type stuff.
and if you don't mind the drive, northstar is your fix if you want tech rocky stuff. if you haven't already...
everybody's got black bikes, and nobody ever says hi. lol. in almost every case (but not all) that i've actually talked to somebody from the internet world, they kinda give me a weird look and say, oh hey, internet yeah, ok see you around. but that's ok, i'm basically pretty anti-social too...
yes, it's absolutely worth it to go to northstar. there's tons of options for any level of rider on any bike. FS is not required. all the trails have difficulty ratings on the trail map--green, blue, black, double black. n* is a great place to ride. definitely check it out.
you don't have to race to ride the course during practice. boondocks is always open. usually the only trails that get closed in their entirety is karpiel and pho dogg. for the other stuff like sticks and dogbone, the upper part is open but the lower sections with the tech rock gardens are...
