It's been a great bike for me.
I put some Works Components -2 angle headset cups in for a more DH feel. It feels good.
The stock HA felt OK with a taller fork, though.
Its hard to compare it to other bikes I've ridden due to different dampers, but it feels pretty stable on wooped out braking...
Good to hear you're on the road to recovery. I thought I'd chime in, as I had a similar break back in 2005. I lost most of the cartilage in the accident, which has really prohibited complete healing, and created a kind of fused ankle(osteoarthritis). Which pretty much sucks. I can still ride...
I weighed a Driver 8, with axle and seat collar I think it came out to around 10.3lbs. with powdercoat , 400# steel spring and a vivid. Medium size.
I'm not sure if I could tell the difference between the Driver 8 and a V-10 while riding.
Also, not racing related, but the seat tube angle makes...
Ran UST minions and 823's for the 3 races I did last year, on a fairly rocky course(skibowl) running ~25 psi and had no flats in practice or race, using 2 scoops of stans.(weigh 175#)
To help with installing them, especially wire bead tires, use a bristle brush and soapy water on the bead...
Just moved up here last year from Ashland. There's not a lot close in, everything seems to be about an hour or more away, but... what is around is good, better than Ashland for sure, and a good amount of variety as well. Also, most spots can be ridden year round!
Highrollers seem like they would clear better than Minions, IMHO. Just tried to do a pedal ride with un-cut wet screams- f-ing slooww! The descent was fun though...loamy and muddy. The kind of soil geotech people say has 'liquifaction'.
Gamut chainguide: Metric and Imperial bolts? Really? maybe this has been addressed in current models, but I figured I'd post it again out of frustration. That being said, it does a good job of keeping the chain on.
Truvative Howitzer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot...
The new bike looks promising, hopefully all the testing yeilds a durable product. At 9.5# or so, its getting pretty damn light. So light that it cracks? -IMO, it doesn't matter all that much- that is, if they're warranty coverage is as good as it has been in previous years...
I won't be holding...
There's a pretty thorough rebuild manual on the sram website. Got a used vivid the other day, and cycled it a couple times. It seems to be doing what you described; cavitation. Oh well, if the info on rebuilding this thing works, I'll be glad to know I can fix it myself mid summer without a 2...
These are some good pants. Zippered vents, gators, tapered legs. Not as waterproof as I would have liked- riding through deep puddles or out when its really raining = wet ass. Oh well. Really comfy though. Crashed a dozen or more times and the knees are only now starting to fuzz out...
Didn't have a hard time getting them to seat, but I've had the single ply kevlar highrollers blow off the rim. At the same time.- with ghetto tubless- which is usually better at reducing burping. I'm not going to be running those uber- loose xc style tires for anything except xc. Too...
I'm trying to decide between M/L size as well(6' 1"). How are you liking the medium?
Could anyone measure center of bottom bracket to center/top of head tube on a large 2010 for me? Much appreciated! (27 1/2" on medium)
@ Cliff- was wondering if ya'll have any at Bear Creek I could try...
Here's a spring calculator Frango. http://www.mojo.co.uk/html(mojo)/springcalc.htm
It doesn't specify % of sag, my guess is around 30%. #350 might be better for you.
Hey ekripper- really like the bike. I'm assuming you're going to be putting a ti spring on there at some point, getting it well below 36lbs.= rad. About the upper link hitting the inside of your knees- Still a problem? Or just not wearing knee pads? Also- could someone with a medium size measure...
