East-Coast USA road trip - what resorts to hit?

Yup, check out Sugarbush when you are in Vermont. Trails have 1700' vertical, so long runs, and the lift is really fast. A bunch of new trails last year, now with a good mix of excavated bike park trails, and plenty of steep natural stuff.

Early season riding in the North East

xc riding in cape cod is as good as it gets right now for anyone in MA. There were 20+ cars at the trail head last weekend. Mickey i'm sending you a message, i have a new dh bike to dial in

    2011 Demo Questions

Some floors will throw a reading off by 2-3 degrees, so it is important to find somewhere as flat as possible, and then flip the bike 180 measuring twice as said.

    2011 Demo Questions

64 with a boxxer right at 8'' slammed, with a drop crown or the fork pulled out taller (8.5-9'' exposed stanchion) puts it in the 63's. Measured with an accurate inclinometer, bike flipped in its place to account for the floor angle etc. Also for anyone who is dying to run the vivid without...

    2011 Demo Questions

Thanks for the follow up, but ill still be using soft velcro like on my last couple bikes. I like a quiet bike and the clear sticker doesn't deaden noise. Either way the guard doesn't cover the lower 4-5'' of the top seatstay which runs close to the chain, so you will need something extra...

    2011 Demo Questions

I got my demo 8 1 yesterday (red and black) and it also has UCI stripes on the top link. The red is a lot brighter than I thought it would be, looks good. Some cool details too, all non-structural bolts are aluminum (cable guide clips, headset cap bolt etc), and for what its worth everything...

    Sam Hill's Injury

I tore my acl (completely) 7 weeks ago. I was riding xc and dh 3 weeks later, and was back to 100% riding-wise within 5 weeks. Ive been doing rehab on it since the accident (lots of xc and gym) and there was no other damage to my knee, which helps. You really don't need a functional ACL for...

Electronic Dura Ace on a DH Bike

Ive spent a good amount of time working with di2 on road and tt setups and I can say in its current state, a terrible idea for downhill. It's awesome for road bikes and by far the best option for an aero bar shifter, but it would need a re-design for dh or mtb. I think the technology is...

    2010 DH Bike Geometry Chart

Yeah...with the 1.5 degree eccentric headtube insert and the shock mounting shuttle gives a whole ton of adjustment for headtube angle, and bb height. Chainstay length also grows with the lower/slacker shuttle settings. I also vote for more people to plug in reach and stack measurements...

Pro GRT 2010 - Need Your Ideas!

Would you mind elaborating on the 250 dollar annual pro team fee? Will this fee apply to any pro wanting to race at a ProGRT, or is it only required to be ranked in the overall?

    Wetscreams

Cut wetscreams aren't half bad on rock or hardpack...not as good as a minion or a high roller, but they aren't as unpredictable or sketchy feeling as uncut ones. Uncut wetscreams are for truly deep slop and grass (like the windham GES) For reference, I ran cut wetscreams at the plattekill...

    highland race this weekend

Ive raced the course several times and always use my dh bike. There are several sections that are pretty fast and rough where carrying speed is important. You would make up some time on a trail bike in the flat middle sections but I think overall a dh bike is faster. I think that it would be...

    2010 Glory build, w/pics...

I agree with your points, plenty of people are on poorly set-up bikes for their ability or size. I see people all the time with bars that are too wide or narrow for their size and ability, horribly tuned suspension and in general just dangerous setups. I did not mean to insinuate that everyone...

    2010 Glory build, w/pics...

The whole slack head-angle thing is just like when wider handlebars and custom extensions started popping up...at first the skeptics were convinced that wider handlebars were only for the fastest of worldcup racers or huge dudes like rennie or peat. Turns out wider bars are simply a better...

    Exclusive:Trek Wind Tunnel Test

love the narrow bars on the aero test bike...so much for figuring out aerodynamic posturing on something not at all like their real bikes. Furthermore much of that stuff is not even UCI legal. Any protruding fairings, windscreens, or any aerodynamic assemblies on the bike are illegal, as well...

Best route from Burlington to Lake Placid for 5K DH?

I live in Burlington, and have been to whiteface half a dozen times. Ive never bothered taking the ferry across, as the drive is around 1.5 hours. For what its worth the ferry will cut off some time but it also costs $ and also is a scheduling hassle.
