he wasnt complaining about the weight of his geared bike, he just wants to build a 29er SS
as far as the weight of the frame goes, if the frame manufacturer's web site doesnt list the weight, you probably arent giong to find it online
that bike looks to be specialized's hardtail equivalent to that giant yukon fx. i would spend the extra $130 and get the specialized rockhopper comp. the 9-speed drivetrain of the rockhopper comp will be much more upgradable than the 8-speed drivetrain of the regular rockhopper.
i also couldnt agree more with everyone else on the suspension. i am a fan of fully rigid myself (after all, even with suspension, your arms/legs take up most of the bumps anyways).
i just built a bike with SRAM X.7/X.9 components, race face crankset/stem/handlebars/seatpost, avid SD7...
she currently rides a 17" 1998 Schwinn Moab 2 which seems to fit her well, so that is why i am sticking with a 17" frame.
the 2nd build most definately is better, unfortunately the price tag comes with it. as of right now, i am really considering the 2nd option with a surly 1x1 fork. i used...
So I plan on building a hardtail XC bike for my fiance for christmas and want some feedback on components to use. I've come up with a couple of different build options that I kind of have in mind (I bolded the components that change between the two component specs I created). I want to spend...
i think its lighter...but then again that could all be in my head. i have a road bike w/ the 2001 n'litened platinum label super butted frame and have always wanted a mountain bike frame. kinda cool to have the best of the last, ya know?
as far as the fork goes, ive had no problems (and i...
damn it, now that i look at the pic...it doesnt have the homegrown sticker on the top tube
i spose its impossible to find a place to buy these now-a-days eh?
i love schwinn
these are just some bikes ive had (notice a trend)
-01 schwinn mesa disc
-01 schwinn moab 1
-01 schwinn fastback factory
-98 schwinn moab 2
well i got the moab 1 frame soon after schwinn bit the dust in late '01/early '02 and built it up as a single speed. have always...
i figure that if you have $XXX to spend on a bike, if you spend it on a full suspension you'll get a good downgrade on drivetrain components. depending on where you live, i think full suspension is very unnecessary, but then again i've been riding fully rigid SS for the past 5 years...so my...
was it 2001? or do they still make it? i have been kinda out of the whole bike scene for a couple years and am looking to get back into the swing of things.
im a firm beleiver in single speeds should be built around simplicity. no disc brakes, no suspension, no carbon fiber, etc. here is a pic of my idea of the ideal single speed.
oh wait...its my bike
