    Kids in downhill biking....your thoughts?

Just took my 7 year old son out for a couple runs down Green World at Trestle- he had a blast on his Hotrock 20. Yeah- best day ever. Quickly scheming on how to put together a Stinky 24 for next season...

    Five Ten Minnaar?

God, I hope they actually make these in size 14, as the website says. I haven't been able to find a size 14 SPD DH shoe since the old Specialized Buzzsaws (and boy were those shoes made like crap).

Follow Me premier in NYC 4/24

Jamis Bikes and Liberty's Bar and Grill have upped the ante by providing FREE BEER for all 21+ moviegoers. That's right- FREE BEER. Don't miss it! Also, I just previewed to film, and it's hot. The RED camera did not go to waste, as they've really pushed the low-light capabilities. It's by...

    Intense Uzzi VP

I replaced my 05 VPX with a new VP late last year. The new one is a huge improvement- totally worth it. I spent 4 days on a rental Remedy in Utah last year, and can't for the life of me figure how anyone could think that bike descends as well as an Uzzi.

World Cup bike race coming to Windham, if …

That article is well-placed to ratchet up pressure on local business and civic leaders to contribute funds to the WC cause. The intent was pretty obvious when *I* read it. Putting together a local organizing committee to mobilize support across other, non-bike sectors, is a VITALLY important...

    Usac/ges

You can start in Cat 2, and need two top-5 finishes in Cat 2 to upgrade to Cat 1. That should be easy enough to accomplish if you're a consistent top-3 finisher at Diablo. The upgrade from Cat 1 to pro, however, is considerably more difficult. There are some occasions where Gully will take...

    tazer fs issues

Buy the 12mm adapter from Saddletime Sports on ebay and have them rush it. Nick, a former Intense staffer, runs saddletime, and I ordered replacement 10mm washers when I lost one down a sidewalk grate last year. Ships fast. $20 or so. While waiting for the washer, I did run a 10mm axle...

    Gary Fisher Superfly

They are awesome bikes if you buy them new and have the Fisher warranty on them. A significant number of my friends race on them and love them. I would not buy any carbon fiber bike from any manufacturer used (ie- without a warranty). Another friend just recently bought a used Scott Spark...

    Geoff Ulmer's World Champs Sale

Is there any way for us to make a straight donation? Paypal? As New Yorkers, we love watching Geoff racing on an international level, and I know our NYCMTB guys would love to chip in to help make it happen...

    USA Cycling Election Results

One more thing- it's hard to underscore how much the rest of the NORBA board respected Todd and valued his contributions. The board thought so highly of him in fact that the board chose him to represent NORBA on the USAC Board of Directors. Todd's contributions to the board have been...

    USA Cycling Election Results

I'm a bit crushed that you lost, Todd, but at the very least your legacy on the board is intact, with several other board members representing gravity racers. Rest assured the voice of gravity racers will still be heard. Jamie

    Riding from Manhattan

These numbers are much more realistic than the first set. As a point of comparison, Diablo is about an hour from Manhattan. If you're looking for folks from NYC to ride out with, or split gas/tolls, check out NYCMTB.com...

    Jurgen Beneke Awesome

In addition to DH, Jurgen still shows up to the local XC races, racing pro XC. It's a shame they don't still have the "overall" classification anymore. 24th in the Alpe D'Huez Megavalanche a few weeks ago, too. 62nd- so that's 13 places ahead of Palmer? ;)

    the 2010 giant 29er

The Giants are the most interesting new hardtail 29ers I've seen in a while. I like that they've gone a different direction than the herd with their geometry- very short stays, 100mm fork- they're not just clones of other companies' 29er hardtails, for sure. On paper they look like great bikes...

    Another pedal question

I've got Shimanos on my XC bike and Times on my DH bike. In my experience, the Times are easier to get back into if I have to pull a foot out for whatever reason. The SPD's are solid when you're in them, but I don't like to be hunting around with my foot to get clipped back in while DHing...

OT: Space shuttle launch online in 30 minutes (2:01 PM EST 5-11-09)

I grew up in Orlando, and we would watch the shuttle launches from our street. Birthday parties at Kennedy Space Center, etc. I still remember that day in 6th grade when the entire elementary school was out on the playground to watch the Challenger launch... Better memories though after...

Good News for tall riders! - Turner to release XL DHR.

That is good news. On the "freeride" side, Intense is doing a XL version of the new Uzzi VP, with a 25" TT. With the adjustable dropouts, could make for a good light-duty DH race bike for tall riders, too...
