Gotta love that geometry! I'd feel right at home on that; my DH/FR bike is a '06 Banshee Chaparral... with Mono6s. Maybe I should get a 24" rear wheel to slack it out. ;)
I believe that what I'm feeling is pure envy. Those bikes are amazing. I've also been experiencing a strange desire for a Z150 recently... this isn't helping! Gotta love those flames, that was a seriously good looking fork.
I've tried a lot of brakes and modern shimano is what I'll buy for cost and convenience. However, for straight up feel, my Mono6s are still my favourite brakes - hands down. The only reason they won't be on my new dh bike is because I want to try being a weight weenie.
(Sorry in advance, I'm a bit *passionate* about this issue.)
Frankyl, that's BS. Companies seem to get away with this in the bike industry, but they owe him a fully functioning frame (for zero additional $) that can actually handle the biking that it was designed for. They don't just owe him...
Basically my exact scenario. My frame was pooched from either design error, QC issues, or the bearing installation at the factory was effed. Our lovely canadian distributor wanted nothing to do with it and the best I could get was an insulting crash replacement offer... as a fellow student who...
Yeah, I lost my M4s (along with the bike they were on) and I really regret that. The raw aluminum was great, and the old levers (Mini or whatever they were called) were perfect for me. Treated myself to a pair of the bling Mono6s with the same style levers on the replacement bike. :D Around...
No one will ever take my Mono6s from me. Out of my cold, dead hands, perhaps... I should really buy a backup set. They feel so damn good.
That said, I'm mostly running dual piston Shimano brakes now. Feel pretty good, easy to work on, cheaper, and lighter. But my god, those Mono6s are...
I had a long-running frame issue on a slightly older model but kept being told it wasn't a problem... until it went in for an overhaul and I was informed that it was dead. I then had a terrible experience with the distributor trying to charge me for crash replacement and then refusing to speak...
If I found some of those rims, I would buy them in a heartbeat.
Still have one on the rear of my hardtail... the tire levers that that rim claimed... :D
It's a bombproof rim too, I've done my share of casing on that thing. Too bad the front wheel walked away when my garage was broken into.
My old Scream? That's a long way for a bike to travel (from Canada), but it has been 6/7 years and I have no idea how bike thieves operate. Would be pretty funny if that turned out to be true.
I'd actually buy it back from the current owner if I ever did find my old bike. The nostalgia has...
This thread brings the epic memories. Still miss my old Scream... damn thieves.
Still have that Roach pad though! It's a prized possession.
I ought to track down a first gen Scream frame and put together a fitting build kit with all the stuff I liked and everything I wanted to upgrade to...
If I'm not mistaken, the swingarm just has a clearcoat on it. I'd say just strip the whole frame, front and rear.
Edit: Right, I guess that won't change the fact that it's polished under the clearcoat... To get it uniform, you might have to do the same treatment over the whole frame, whether...
I can't wait until the shock kit is available. I might not be able to get one right away, depending on the price, but it will be at the top of my list for sure!
5 Stage isn't really more than a name with the Elka, so that will really have no correlation to any number of stages that might exist in Avy suspension. I believe the 5 Stage name refers to the number of adjustments, but I could be wrong.
Banshee Wildcard could also be a great choice. Not sure if you could find one used though. That being said, I also have to recommend the Chaparral. I have an 06, and while it isn't as light, it pedals remarkably well and is very versatile. I even did a cross-country race on it! (Okay...
