I'm 5'8" and on a Medium. It feels perfect with a 50mm stem for FR. It's a hair short for trail riding with that stem, so I have a 70mm on hand as well.
I'd say you're spot on with a large unless you have a short torso.
I've been on an SS since last November. It's really a killer bike. I've used it for everything from trail riding to dirt jumps, to tech DH. It definitely excels on flowy, bermed trails with lippy jumps. Mine comes in at just a hair under 34 lbs at the moment.
A few shots...
It'll be used primarily for dirt jumping with just little urban and park. As BikeSATORI mentioned, it's basically a Pike without the 20mm dropouts. I did this to have the option of running pegs but probably never will. Revelations/Pikes work quite well for dirt jumping, very light and plenty...
That was a Supercross MX26. And yeah, wow, I've never spend so much time prepping a frame. I bet I spent a full 2 hours chasing and facing the BB, brutal. Fun bike except for the long chainstays.
Nope, they're built right here in UT, I've been to the shop. No problems at all with this frame. I think you may be confused with one of my other builds.
Oh, and thanks for all the compliments, it has been quite a project.
It may be of interest that this was the first production Satellite sold and I was fortunate enough to pick it up directly from Doc and Teresa. I felt like I was walking away with one of their children. They're putting a lot...
Gearing is wrong. I actually have 24-12 on there now, 13 was a typo. I was thinking 26" when I ordered. I'll prob throw a 28 on the front shortly.
Or maybe I'll just take up flatland :)
I don't post over here much but seemed like I ought to share...
It's dumping snow here right no so hard to take any good pics. Here's a couple of shots of the completed build though.
Build Specs:
Frame: Superco Satellite, Charger Blue
Fork: RS Revelation 426 dual air, set at 80 mm...
very nice, I have a Rumble frame around that I had built up for a while, fun ride. I had a Firefly on mine for a bit and it seemed to handl it well. Switched to a U-Turn Pike and it was money.
For trail riding the DHX is the call since it has platform dampening. The Rocco Air is great but works best with frames that are very efficient by design or when pedaling performance isn't quite as important.
Pike coil u-turn works great as a trail and DJ fork. It's really a dual personality fork. Crank it down to 95 mm for DJ's then crank it back up for trail.
If your serious about urban/park/dj then the sovereign.
If your serious about rocky trails, drops, big gaps, etc, the BR.
If your serious about both, see Lumagent Morple's post...
Both nice bikes for sure.
I've been tubless on my big bikes for the past year. I've done a lot of experimenting, so far it's working well.
What tires are you running right now?
DH casing?
For DH I'd recommend Maxxis Minion/Highroller 2.5
For FR the Maxxis Advantage 2.4 (non-UST) seem to work well and are a lot...
It is different, it is very fun, there are fewer trails but some of them are equally challenging to what's up at Whistler. I had a great weekend riding at Diablo. BC is still my favorite place to ride, not sure if Whistler is my favorite place in BC though, hard to say, there's so much...
