    Aussie DH monkeys

A 27.5 Reign with 2 wheelsets sounds pretty ideal. My preference is to have my Geometry as close to a full on DH bike as possible but with less travel and less weight. I also prefer a low BB just to emphasize the handling traits that are most important to a downhiller. Many long travel trail...

    Aussie DH monkeys

I'm from the Sydney area and I also lived and rode downhill in the USA, around NYC for 7 years. IMHO Aussies tend to over estimate the roughness of our local tracks. I would agree that sections of our tracks are rough ... but not sustained roughness that really calls for a full on DH bike. I...

    steel vs ti

Remember the threads way back rotating spring perches (I'm not sure this is the correct term). Several monkeys noticed how the suspension felt smoother and softer with rotating spring perches. This is purely e-speculation: A steel spring of the same rate and stroke has more turns/winds...

    Phoenix vs DW DHR

"Both have lower BBs than a Sunday? Farrrk. Have they got 5/10 working on some steel caps? That's a deal breaker for me here in Oz. Still keen to hear more ride reports though, preferably not from friends of DW. Good informed review but, cheers." Why is a low BB a deal breaker in NSW? I ride...

    New fork

Avalanche DHF-8.5 MT USD Fork http://www.avalanchedownhillracing.com/dhf8forka.html If your considering the monster its much better performing and a little lighter.

Why do I keep breaking frames

Could be riding style or suspension setup related. Are other components on you bikes failing? Try riding a hard tail on DH trails, that will make you smooth FAST.

Brakes - Shimano Saint vs. Formula The One

The Saints are much more powerful than the ones. I've tried both on friends bikes. I run Gustavs with shimano levers (the most powerful brake setup possible, I have not tried the Hope Moto V2s). The Ones are lighter than the saints but the saints are much more powerful and IMHO have a nicer...

Shimano Brake Lever questions (current Saint levers on '05 XT brakes?)

Straitline makes lever blades only. I have never seen straitline lever blades for the newer saint m810 levers. What your proposing does not make sense. The newer Saint 810 levers will work with older XT 760, 756 or 755 calipers. They will actually feel more powerful with the new style...

bike shops in New York City having downhill gear?

Racers Edge closed down last year. Gerald the former owner works at Roys Bikes at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. Yo wont find any shops in NYC with leatt braces in stock. Sids bikes is probably the best for DH stuff, they are a little pricey IMO.

    Which Fork?

its funny how riders will happily ride a frame thats a 1lb or 2lbs heavier than another because of a superior suspension and stiffness but wont accept a similar weight penalty for a superior performance from a fork.

    Which Fork?

I own the Avalanche DHF7.5 and DHF8.5 they are around 8.5 and 9lbs. I think the DHF7.5 is by far the best value fork on the market at $999 2/3rds the cost of your other options. I rode a 2006 boxxer WC for 2 seasons and I have taken runs on 888s and 40s. I liked the overal performance of the...

    09 demo 7 what shock?

call Avalanche and see if he has put an Avy on the Demo7. Avys work really well on the demos suspension, I used to ride a demo9 with an avy. The Boss is another possibility. Elka shocks are a cheaper and probably better option than a vivid, dhx, roco, revox ......

    New Avy DHF 7.5 ??

I own a DHF8 single damper, DHF7 Single damper and a DHF8 with dual dampers with the triple pinch bolt lower crown. Both single damper forks will twist most of the time If drop the bike or clip a tree. What causes the fork to twist is is not a harsh bottom out. More often its from the...

    shortest 2.75 stroke shock?

running a 8.5 X 2.5 or less than 8.75 X 2.75 will compromise the suspension performance of the demo significantly. The Demo is pretty progressive anything that shortens the shock length will compromise the suspension as it will sag further into the stroke where the suspension rate ramps up...

Looking for some Demo 9 riders and their rear spring rate??

I'm 203lbs with gear. I ran a 450lb with an Avy. The setup was a tad soft but the Avy stopped it from ever bottoming harshly. You should definitely be on a 500lbs spring. Adding pressure to compensate for the low spring rate is not going to work the same as running the correct spring rate...

Th effects of fork offset and trail on handling.

This thread got me interested. I found this website that goes into a lot of depth on the subject: http://wotid.com/tls/content/view/24/53/

Th effects of fork offset and trail on handling.

I've ridden boxxers, shivers and Avalanche forks mainly. My understanding is boxxers have about 40mm of offset and the avy forks have about 70mm. I think the effect of the offset/rake depends on how you turn. I have in certain situations (mainly lower speed tight corners) noticed that a...

    Lift operators - Revised

The new batch of lift operators really suck. The crew they had 2 years back were much better than the current lift operators. 1) we should be able to put our passes where we want to for a whole bunch of reasons. As long as the riders the ticket is made accessable to the lift operators whats...

Stan's ZTR Flow rim (how are they holding up)??

Plattekill is not nasty on wheels. Diablo is nasty on wheels. Diablo is nasty rocks in hard packed dirt (rocks dont move) on most of the natural DH style trail the majority of the trail surface is littered in baby heads that you pretty much have no choice but to suck up. Plattekill has a...
