I'd be interested, just reeeeeal short on time these days. (2 year old at home plus 12- and 14-yo kids playing baseball and soccer.) Last night was my one weekly kitchen pass (I usually get one, assuming no schedule conflicts).
Just out of curiosity, where do you guys usually ride up there?
Hey jd, we were just up there last night and the 'sco was SWEET. Those singlespeed hammerhead freaks kicked my a$$ though. 3 hours, 12 miles, 2000+ feet of climbing. Ouch. :bonk:

there was an article in the paper yesterday about this... apparently mich and nj have done this and it did not have the intended effect. roads are not necessarily safer and these two states have a lot more unlicensed (and uninsured, and still unsafe) drivers. and oh by the way, this tends to...
The reason it only applies to VA residents is that the DMV will collect the fees along with your license/registration renewal. Other states (like NY, NJ) apply the fees to everyone and collect them directly.
Some have said that, if people go to court, the judges may reduce fines more now...
yeah it's still a farm (there's a sign out front that says grey rock ranch, they have maybe 50 steer and some crops) but i think they lease the land from md dnr.
I can't say for sure where the finish line is but it's probably at the very bottom. If you're coming from Keezletown, Mountain Valley Rd to Happy Valley Rd, look for the rotted ranger's booth on the right. That's the bottom of Del Webb. But the registration/finish line area will probably be...
Dave,
Are you parking at the bottom and riding to the top? Or will you have someone there with you who can drive you to the top? I have a map that I bought from the ski office, I'd be happy to pdf it and send it to you (can't post it online, they're freaky about the hush-hush western slope...
Yeah the descents aren't that steep or sketchy at all. A 5" travel XC bike would be ideal. I haven't ridden the whole ravine trail but from what I could tell it was mostly bench cut along the ravine, not a fall line trail at all. The other trails below are mostly smooth doubletrack with a few...
If you're riding a loop, you'll want to climb up Del Webb on the western side (climb the road). I wouldn't want to try climbing up any of the trails that come down from Kaylor Knob.
I rode the Kaylor Knob trail a few weeks ago from the Del Webb overlook (that's where they're starting, right?). You can only drive to it from the Mass resort side, not the Keezletown side. (There's a road on the western side but it's gated and the Mass security guys use it for patrolling the...

I was one of the speakers. Actually I was the first individual speaker (#10 on the list) but I didn't get to hang around to hear everyone else speak. What are the chances of a freeride park actually getting built in MoCo?
I sent an email and got replies from both the MC Dept of Rec director and the MCNCPPC chairman's office. I would love to have a freeride park in MoCo -- paid for by our property and income taxes of course.
Thanks for the tip.
Nope. Used to be you could park at the bottom, climb the service road and do the XC stuff up top and then bomb down Breakdown Blvd or one of the other sick DH runs. No lift ticket needed, so it didn't cost a dime. But ever since they closed to bikes, you can't ride on their property, period.
