There are several reasons:
The current timed system is great for determining who is the best but at a developmental level of racing it is actually discouraging to new and upcoming riders. From the standpoint of a promoter or event organizer (neither of which I am), you want every opportunity to...
When it gets down to the nitty gritty, it's either a 2-round or 3-round qualifier that moves the top 2 riders into elimination rounds. I am trying to write this so that the system is well described and can be implemented without the typical USAC "grey-area" rules that are interpreted by...
Cool, I will look it up. Slalom is a bit more difficult because most tracks have a dominant lane.
Yep.
Yes. There is a chance that the top riders are knocked out early either to a stacked moto or to poor luck on lane assignment. These are local and regional races. The intent is to not...
I put together an alternative method of running Mountain Cross events that does not require a timing company. I am looking for input/suggestions to flesh this out a little more. I've also attached an example 32-man bracket so you can see how riders would advance and be assigned gates.
Please...
Todd,
Thanks for taking what had turned into a constructive thread and turning it back into the trollfest that it started as. Your views on MX are well known. Maybe it's time you reflect that your attitude towards this topic may be why some of us feel that it's better not to have a voice on...
I'm glad to see this thread come back from a trollfest and sorry for the wall of text.
Gated racing (DS and MX) in general has some major issues but nothing that cannot be resolved to make it a viable sport for both the promoter and the racers.
The primary issue with gated racing is...
Matt,
Would you (& Sol Vista) be interested in running a 4X series next year at Sol Vista? I'm thinking something simple, cheap (~$30 entry fee), 100% pro payout. I'm figuring on 4-6 races (hopefully leaning towards 6). Run with 4-5 people total, no timing, no USAC.
Let me know if you'd be...

Also, Angel Fire Lodge has a Fall Blazin Glory deal for $79/night + 3rd night free. You have to call (not offered online) 800-633-7463.
LOL well grats to the winners, looking to see how my kid did. First representation at an event like this, and no Freecaster, no results, so waiting .... not very patiently but stoked Geoff represented .. was concerned he wasn't gonna get to go, glad he did.
The #1 thing to make ProGRT better is for NORBA to learn how to get and maintain sponsorships for the series. Then USE that money for the series to offset costs to the promoter and offer decent purses within the Pro classes.
In all honesty, if NORBA/USAC/whomever can't kick down $25k minimum...
Snowmass this weekend is also UCI inscribed (DH & 4X).
Grumblings are that 2010 you will see a few less US-based UCI events. I hope this is wrong, but I also understand why.
The courses at Sol Vista are designed by riders not by promoters. Everyone raced the same course last year, there were go arounds for the sport and beginner riders on various sections. My assumption is that the same will occur this year on the amateur course.
There is only so much time in the...
