Sorry, but going through a set of bushings in less than a season is absolutely not reasonable. I am not doing races every weekend or so. My downhill season is only 5 to 6 months of a year. I never ever saw a fork going through a set of bushings every season.
The german distro sends the forks...
Anyone else having problems with bushing wear/play? Had massive play after the first season, got the upper tubes replaced on warranty. Then again the same massive play after the second season.
Problem is, that the inner tubes start scratching on the inside of the upper tubes when there is play...
The Dorado Air Spring is an really simple assembly.
Pics here http://fotos.mtb-news.de/p/1155515?in=set
Only ONE valve, that at the same time allows pressurizing and equalizing the chambers.
I run it at 80-85psi for my 200lbs.
Rebound around 1/3 of the range in from fully open, TPC 1/2 - 2/3, HSC only three to five clicks.
Like the Freeride setup in the Manitou guide. Felt good for allday shuttled park riding.
some pics of the Dorado internals...
First let me say I own a manitou Nixon Intrinsic with MARS hybrid air/coil spring, rode a Sherman Slider with TPC+ for a few years and now have a 2010 Dorado Pro on my Downhill bike for two seasons. Before that I had one of that old Boxxers with Push Rebound and Manitou/Ridemonkey Mod...
Modified Boxxer with open bath damper (Avalanche)?
I'm asking, because on a stock Boxxer the damper oil is not in contact with the bushings at all. For lubrication on a stock fork use some cheap mineral non-synthetic ATF.
See pic: Left side, steel ring vs. plastic guard, brake line is pressing the guard against the ring. The ring is worn down quite a bit.
It is and was not really causing noise so far.
I installed some grub screws for venting to the top caps of my Dorado. Because on locations with long, hard runs like Leogang the fork was stiffening up over the day.
There was a big difference in stiffness between the first Shivers and the later models afaik. Never rode one, but had friends riding the different models.
If they manage to give the new Shiver at least the torsional stiffness of a Dorado everything is fine because the Manitou is far from a wet...
They are easily available in Europe. The 2012 forks got lighter. There are some service centers in Europe, the best being r53engineering in UK. Price for a 2012 Idylle Rare is on par with a FOX 40, in Germany at least.
Don't know how the situation is in the US.
Yes the inverted design has no big advantages over conventional forks but a few disadvantages.
The good thing is that an inverted fork has less problems with dirt in on or under wipers/seals, and they are always nicely lubricated.
Rode a Dorado last season in really muddy conditions.
Manitou...
Look at Dirt Magazine #120 page 33, Fast Suspension in France is offering something similar for Boxxers. But they sell you completely new stanchions with the coating for EUR 300.
But the 170 i read in the pictures comments for the coating from Pepe (Italy) are not that much if you want...
