I too was a little put off from all the reviews, they made the bike sound like it was no longer a viable trail bike and that it should relegated to shuttle runs and bike parks only. I'm definitely going to demo one before making up my mind, I love my N3 and it is my ONE bike to do it all. I'm...
Cane Creek Angleset – fits 1.5 headtubes for forks with 1.125-1.5 tapered steer tubes. It allows + or - 1.0 and 1.5 degrees of adjustment using 2 different top cups and a single stationary bottom cup. I used it for about 3 months, the bearings are in excellent (and I'm including 2 new bottom...
I'm in the same boat, I've had my ENVE AM wheels for about a year now and have beat the piss out of them with no issues. I actually took them off to true them last night for the first time and they were still straight after a year. A couple small wobbles nothing a quick couple of turns didn't...
I've had both and I would go new for sure, the older models are better descenders, but the newer models (the Al or the Carbon) are much better all-arounder bikes and the collet axles are much easier to maintain.
I have an older 07 Socom, I have owned it since new and I'm still loving it. I added slacker dropouts a while back and added a FOX 40, an FOX RC4 and an Angleset (-1.5) this past season and it's still an amazing bike. At 37.9 lbs it's no too shabby weight wise either.
Off the bat the shock was a lot smoother and more senstive to small bumps than the 2011 RP23. To me the compression settings are more noticeable throughout the range than the old shock. I went with a different tune, medium vs the light (which was stock) and this seems to work better on sharp...
My Socom needed an update so, with some new parts I decided to breathe some new life into my old ride:
Frame Medium Socom with -1.0 Degree Slacker Dropouts
Shock: 2012 Fox DHX RC with Kashima Coating
Fork: 2012 Fox 40 with Kashima Coating
Headset: Cane Creek Angleset with -1.5 Degree...
Its sort of a locals only place, though there seems to lot more cars at the trail head these days. Like other places on the North Shore, talking about it on web is generally frowned upon...
I've had two Nomads, a gen one for 3 seasons and I have 2 seasons on a gen two now. I also have a BLT, when I had the gen one Nomad, I used the BLT a lot more than I do now. On more XC type rides, it seemed like a better choice. But now that I've got the gen two, I rarely use the BLT anymore...
I ran a 50 mm stem on the Nomad 1 and run a 50 on my Nomad 2 - I'm a big fan of running shorter stems, they really seem to work well with the type of riding I do.
