Are you saying that you'll hit your 20 year mark in the service 3 years from now or 17 years from now?
If it's the latter then maybe you should wait to ask this question at least 15 years from now.
Or, why not try to PCS to the area to experience the PNW for yourself? I'm not sure...
Yeah, the strap-on is a critical addition when you are hitting it with speed. I heard a lot of people were sending it down to the bottom of the gulley during the race.
The only thing that still gives me the willies is the step up after the booter. I keep dangerously overshooting that thing...
As promised for those of you riding up near Snoqualmie yesterday, here are some pics my wife snapped.
Special thanks goes out to Pip for helping me dial in that wooden stepdown.
I've got a medium Uzzi VPX that I've been considering parting with because it seems too big for me. I need a true medium. I've got both a DHX air and coil that go with it. PM me if interested. I'm in Seattle.
Hey, thanks for the pics. You can almost tell I'm about to crap myself mid-air on the first one! The dead sailor is in full effect!
I'm glad I finally hit that thing on the Preston. Thanks to those who gave me the beta on take off speed.
That makes sense. Thanks. I didn't take the wheel path or sag into consideration.
I'm in the market for a freeride bike and I don't want to make a purchase until I can throw a leg over the CanDiggle. Please let us know when you get the first ones in.
Don't worry, I won't hit any of the lips or landings if it's too soft. And, I always repair my damage, and the damage of others if I see it.
Thanks for the beta guys. I'll be heading out in half an hour and the weather looks perfect. Everyone should get out there and ride today.
According to the spec sheet the chainstays are 17.5" and the bottom bracket is at 14.6". Am I reading that right?
This seems to be a big change from the Lucky with 17" stays and a 14" bb. I was very close to getting a Lucky because the geometry looked so perfect for me. But, I figured I'd...
Does anyone care to comment on the condition of the trails? Muddy Beast?
I haven't been out to the Gulch in awhile but I have an itch to hit the DJ's and the step-up line. Maybe some trail riding too. I'm hoping it's not too muddy tomorrow so I can hit it up after work.
Ride the Pike and don't worry about those other forks that are not on your bike. You'll love it. I find the Pike the perfect compliment for the Preston.
If I were you, I would get a DH bike too if you truly do have Diablo out your back door.
I run a Pke 454 dual air on my 05 Preston and it works perfect for me. Super light, stiff, climbs and descends well. I like the easy access flood gate valve so I can firm it up if I'm gonna hit a big drop or some DJs. The U Turn doesn't offer me much advantage though as my sag takes me that...
I've owned a 575 and currently ride an 05 Preston. I love both bikes.
The 575 was a much better climber and a lot more plush on the descents. In fact, it corners better than the Preston due to the low bb. However, I mix in light freeriding with my all mountain riding on a regular basis...
I was at the Gulch yesterday but had a hell of a time getting to the jumps. It's only the second time I've gone. Once I parked at the gravel lot at the bottom of the tracks and that made for one helluva push to get up there. This time I parked at the Boeing baseball fields and tried to cut...
I went last night and met a couple of people. We were the only ones there though. You've gotta look for some holes in the fence.
That was my first time at SST. Fun place. Too bad it's such a ****ty drive from Kirkland after work.
