Definitely go for beefy tyres.
I ran Mavic 823s with tubeless Michelin Comp16s. Heavy but didn't get a puncture all week.
I used a Commencal SupremeDH and it was a bit big.
The best option is using a downhill bike for the qualifier (just a short fireroad uphill... get off and run up...
New saints are a different brake to the Servowave XT... but don't know any more. Apparently the Saints are 'too' powerful.
XTR - lighter due to no servowave
XT - heavier due to servowave, much more powerful.
Callipers are pretty much the same.
I used XT Servowave levers and XT...
Been told by Hotlines that the new Lapierre DH bike will be out in November. This will be very similar to the one that Danny Hart rides now.
I'm looking to build a new bike for 09, and this is tempting me after seeing Danny's in France recently.
Has anyone managed to blag a ride on one...
I remember Shaun coming back for a race and he rode a Specialized hardtail which he painted black due to no longer being sponsored. Wore jeans and a t-shirt for a race.
Am I right? Does anyone have the full story?
Any pics of the bike? Can remember a black specialized with XTR v-brakes...
I bought a pair of thick Sunlines then went back to Ruffians.
Three problems with the Sunlines imo...
1) The locking mechanism is rubbish compared to ODIs. I find the end cap comes off if you tighten it up tight. Just doesn't feel that solid a connection to the bar
2) The thick grip is...
Good advice guys. Thanks.
I've never used a belt for the reasons posted above. See so many people in the gym using belts and their form is crap and they're relying too much on the belt, instead of holding form with their abs and back.
Read quite a few posts about squats. I do a lot of weight training and noticed my downhill improving from upper body work.
Whats the best for doing squats? Form wise is spot on (down to thighs horizontal etc) but what about reps vs weight? Higher reps or Higher weight? Or a mix of the two...
Depends on your riding style.
If you drag brakes a lot, then a smaller brake will heat up quicker and lose power.
If you're hard on your brakes for a shorter time, then smaller brakes will work fine and save a bit of weight.
Would be cool to see more photos of the M6 builds and if possible some pics of the suspension fully compressed without spring. Haven't seen the wheel path of the M6 yet.
Cheers
Commencal are a good brand to look at. I had one of their Meta4X frames and it was mint. A mate had an Absolut 4X and the angles and look are just perfect.
To me, the Tomac 4X frame looks like an XC frame... be worth buying a Commencal to compare.
Agreed. I had one of the later 204 Magnums and was looking forward to the new range, but the DH bike and now this 4X bike just don't do it for me. It's a real shame as the name has huge heritage. Off to Intense for a Socom then...
I owned one of the first Meta4Xs. Great frame. The Athertons (UK based Commencal race team) use theirs a lot for all sorts of riding, DJ, 4X and a bit of downhill.
A mate had an Absolut 4X (hardtail version) and we agreed that the Meta4X was better for everything bar the initial snap away...
Any reports in the US of their new DH bike and how it rides? Not seen anything over here in England. Used to own a 204 Magnum so interested in their new rig. Cheers
Maybe true, but bars are something I (and I assume lots of other riders) neeeed confidence in. So, personally, I'm happier spending the extra bit more to get a brand and pedigree I have confidence in.
