I've had good luck (one pinch flat) with the regular, so probably not worth it. The Pro is noticeably harder which you can feel when smacking things.
FTR, I only run inserts to avoid pinch flats and so that I can run normal PSI, and I only got the Pro because it was going on a hardtail with...
I'm running Rimpact regular and Pro. Only one pinch flat since I started using them.
I smacked a rock hard enough on my hardtail to hurt my ankles and break a couple spokes, but no pinch flat. One of the spokes was pushed through the tape causing a flat, though. Didn't have my special tool and...
Any suggestions for what size sheet of Xpel to cover a size 3 Smash? I still have some leftover from an 18x24 sheet I covered another bike with, but it didn't have the same suface area.
I've skipped this step on my past few bikes, and apparently I'm pretty rough on paint. I don't really care...
I like the way it looks (other than that monstrosity out front), and I'm always in favor of ridiculous hardtails, but I gotta have some squish up front, even if just 100-120mm to save me from stupid mistakes.
I live about 20 minutes outside Charlottesville. There are plenty of options around here, and I hit Sherando and GWNF a good bit. Roanoke has a pretty big DH scene. I wish I lived closer, there's some great riding down there.
Word, that makes a lot of sense, and I'm still pretty good at discounting stack. In my defense I only recently realized that I have weird proportions.
I've got an OG Megatrail, a custom XC bike and a hardtail. They all get ridden, but the MT probably sees the most, and what I really want to do...
Thanks, @marshalolson. Wheelbase is probably the biggest thing keeping me from jumping on a size 3, though I get nervous about the loooong reach, too. I got a 210mm dropper at the end of last year and I’ll never go back to shorter. I know I’d have to play with spacers and tall bars, but I’m used...
5’10” with freakish 34.5” inseam. Talk me out of a size 2 long Gnarvana/Smash with high rise bars.
Edit: apparently I don’t have shortish arms, I’ve got a positive ape index.
Haha! My compressor is in the shed so that's where I go to curse at tires, away from family earshot. My hand pain induced dad-rage led to the creation a handle for my tire lever, fashioned from old paper towels and duct tape. It looks like a prison shank and only kinda works.
I've got Rimpact, regular and pro (which I'm running on the back of my hardtail). The surface of the insert gets covered in sealant, but I haven't had any issues with the sealant being absorbed.
It's good for pinch flat prevention, but I can't say I've noticed any other performance benefits...
Short shocking made it a completely different (better) bike, enough so that didn't DT eventually spec it with the shorter shock? The BB was still 14"+, but I guess it was enough of an improvement over the original 15"+ that it seemed low. :D
Is anyone doing 210mm drop other than OneUp? That was reason enough for me, the comparitively low price, solid build, and good CS were just gravy. The downside is that I'm spoiled, 170mm feels like the seat is in the way now.
No doubt, and there's something to be said for experience and iteration and getting everything dialed. I'm a sucker for a short travel bike (FS and HT) with big bike geo, and their numbers are pretty dead-on.
I've always been a fan of BTR, and have seriously considered them on several occasions (Pinner and Ranger), but I can't ever get over the pricing. For similar/less money and a shorter wait, you can go full custom.
Interesting about breaking down. I’m a silicone convert and seem to go back and forth between alcohol and aqua net with each replacement. I’m not sure it matters much. If they’ve survived long enough to start moving it’s probably time to replace for the stink anyway.
