Some really sweet bikes here. I really have to start saving for a new bike, the old single pivot 5" frame and 32mm stanchions on the fork are limiting me.
I'm no trials expert but ya, that's a cross country stem. Any bike with 130mm stem would probably be harder to manual, I know my bike was with a 110mm.
Dead lifts can be dangerous if not done properly. If you work your way up with proper form they are beneficial though.

What size stem and what bars are you running? Forks as well? If it's really that hard it has to be something to do with the bike if you can manual the other bikes.
I run them so the grips are parallel to the ground when viewed from the side. I heard that rolling them forward can bind your wrists, I don't like the feel of it either. I have seen a few running them tilted forward with good results, so to each his own I guess.
I rescently went from a 110mm to a 90mm and am now wishing I had gone with a 60mm. As a general rule, shorter stems will allow you to throw your weight back farther, thus making it easier to do manuals and such.
Personally I like platforms. I have always ridden bmx bikes and other bikes with platforms that I don't feel right if I'm clipped in. I'm used to being able to do no footers and take a foot off instantly, so platforms I what I like.
