Mine do the same intermittantly, although especially after I rebuild. I was told it was nothing to worry about. It was just the little silver plate at the bottom of the moco moving against the blue bit due to the movement of oil (or something along those lines).
Yep, I'd definitely be going an 8.5 x 2.5. I'm running that setup on my bighit for downhill, and never looked back! You'll go down to ~7.36" rear travel or something, but it becomes appreciably lower and slacker.
Yep, agree with above although one setup with a biglink and 8.5 x 2.5 shock works best imo - lowers and slackens it out noticeably and you still keep 7.4" travel
If you aren't getting any compression at all regardless of the knob position, you've probably put the male and female prongs back together the wrong way around. Rotate the plate 180 degrees and try again.
