After building my 29er HT I've been thinking about bike geometry a lot and one thing keeps bugging me: the effect of bb height and drop on the handling.
I'm pretty sure bb drop is responsible for how poppy a frame feels because it determines the 'tipping point', getting the front wheel off...

I know and in case you somehow read that in my post, I dont hate mtb films in general; I really dig Sprung/Earthed and stuff like Chris Akrigg's edits. It's just a certain style of filming I can't stand that's just too common in the mtb world.
This would be one of the last videos I'd show when people ask me about mountainbiking as it makes downhill look gay as hell. I don't have a problem with slo mo and interviews per se but this is just cheesy.

Not to start the whole fixed gear argument all over again but this...
I have the XT's on my big bike and an SLX on my jump bike, must say I do miss the free stroke adjustment although filling them a bit more should do the trick too.
Ok so I managed to make things work with a little filing but only with the ring in the 'outer' position.
How bad would this be for my chain/cassette? I will do some climbing on it so I don't want to have my chain break..
Does anyone know what chain device will work in combination with the XT trekking cranks?
I bought an MRP Mini G2 with the steel backplate and this seems not to work as the chainring and bolts catch the backplate.
Any suggestions?

I'm looking at buying a used SX Trail frame. My buddy has the new one and I really like it but I can get the older one (an '08) for a lot less. The geometry appears to be the same so is there any reason I should go for the newer one, like strength?
I want a playful but (:rolleyes:) stable...
As said, SLX is supposed to be stronger but my XT's hold up just fine.
Which doesn't mean much as it all depends on how you land, I've seen a guy break Hollowbites riding trails.
So how is a Dob or BMW more mtb than the frames you mentioned? High bb means the bike is less stable in the air and the riding position is more like a bmx..
I'm thinking about having v-brakemounts welded to my Tonic Howie as I'm completely done with disc brakes;
does anyone know how this will effect the frame's strength?
And please don't tell me to run discs as I'm fed up with the rubbing, expensive maintenance and the risk of a ruined...
I get what you're saying but compared to a bmx, even the most 'extreme' geometry'd mtb still feels sluggish and those guys are still going way bigger on everything, just check the size of the average trails, racetrack or street huck those guys are doing..says enough to me about how much...
