I have this older Dunlop bike trailer for my son, and the bearings for the wheels have gotten really loose. The wheels wobble quite significantly on the axles. I figured I'd take apart the axles to replace and tighten the bearings. However the bearings are unlike any wheel I've fixed before...
I have a suggestion that may work for you.
Instead of an image map, could you slice the image into several parts and piece them together with a table or DIV/HTML?
If so, you can easily use CSS or Javascript roll-over effects to change the image source on mouse over.
