I think it could be a win-win situation, depending how much/expensive getting something machined would be.
For example, lets say I want to make a custom direct stem for my For 40, light but durable aluminium. How much are we looking at? If its less than 100 bucks, I would consider it a win-win...
I found ex823 rims at 54 bucks. A Hope pro 2 front hub for 89, and rear for 230... That sums up 427 (+spokes).
Im not sure about the weight of this setup though..
