To answer your brake question I assume you are asking the difference between hydraulic disc brakes and mechanical disc brakes (no one really uses mechanical rim brakes on mtbs anymore, and hydraulic rim brakes are only used in trials). Mechanical disc brakes use a cable to actuate a lever at the...
I have solved the problem with what I think is hands-down the best solution. In researching, I found out about Specialized's completely awesome lifetime frame warranty policy. If the frame ever breaks (which was always the plan anyway, ride it till it breaks), Specialized will send you out the...
I ride a 2005 Specialized P.2 which has the old ISCG hole spacing. The stock chainguide broke and I wanted to get an E-Thirteen guide. They offer both a chainguide with the old ISCG hole spacing as well as the now-standard ISCG-05 spacing. The dilemma is that I will likely buy a new frame in...
I have seen videos of people using propane torches to "bake" their dirt jumps. Can someone who has actually done this please explain how this works? Is this technique mainly for building new jumps or could it be useful for resurfacing existing lines? Would this work with any kind of dirt?
Yeah, if the launch and landing are the same radius there is no room for error. The slightest overshoot will be jarring and kill your momentum, the slightest undershoot will cause you to case. It would just be too frustrating to ride.
Eaterofdog is spot on with everything he has said. The P2 (I ride one every day) is not a very good street bike; the bb is just too damn low.
Trying to convert a non-trials bike into a trials bike is not a very good idea for exactly the reasons he said. A trials frame has many features...
I got the Teva Pinner (exactly the same shoe as the Links, just not as ridiculous looking).
Links
Pinner
The shoe has unbelievable grip, a stiff base, and a thick springy tongue. They do not, however, have very high support around the ankle (if that's what you're into). If you took a...
I ride an older P2 2005 P2(same geometry as the new ones, but very different components) and I think it's great for djs. I don't think it's a great bike for street/park riding, mostly because of the low bb and slack headtube angle. I find it's hard to manual and bunnyhop on it. I find it...
Yeah, you'll need to lace up a new wheel if you want to keep your rim because you will need a thru axle hub. You can go with a 15mm or a 20mm axle, either will be plenty strong. You should base the decision on what fork you want (and might want in the future). Or you could just buy a complete...
Wait, you want to put it on a slope that's 35 degrees? That's extremely steep. The slopestyle courses I've ridden looked like they were about 6-10 degrees when measured from top to bottom. Also, almost all berms are on areas which are flat or near flat (see the pictures above).
Could you...
If you see someone digging, don't ride up to him and ask "when will this be done?" What you're really saying with that question is "Hey, this looks like something I want to ride, but I don't respect you enough to offer to help you in building it. After all, I'm a massive tool who leeches of...
In Colorado there are two city-owned parks which are completely awesome:
Frisco Peninsula Bike Park
Valmont Bike Park
The beauty of these spots is that there is a very wide range of difficulty. You want the place to accommodate both 4-year-olds on their push bikes as well as hardcore...
I thought about a carbon dj/park bike for about three seconds, then I thought about the first time you bailed on a trick and watched your very un-resiliant carbon bike slamming into the coping or plummeting into the pit of a double. A freestyle bike should be able to handle it when you bail...
Dirt jumps on public land are a great example of The Tragedy of Commons:
No one is required to dig, and it is in their individual self-interest to just ride the dirt jumps and never contribute to their maintenance. Thus, no one digs, and the spot goes to hell.
The way I see it, there are...
