I've seen E13 and Canfield(early version) DM stems break with steel bolts. I think the real issue in the stem discussion is 3 or 4-piece design versus 2-piece. If there are 3 or 4 individual parts (2 bar clamps, 2 crown mounts ala E13) then the bolts are taking a hell of a lot more force...
Use a standard Cane Creek 1.5 flush top cup, no gimbles. If its zero deg it shouldn't matter. You have to press a cup in and out regardless, might as well use the simpler setup.
OR
I'd try adding a few micro shims in between the top cap and the compression split ring. The tolerances are...
Hey there,
This is Adam from the Downhill Zone bike shop. Yes we are a an I9 dealer, not stocking currently(a bit pricey to have them sitting around) but I have an account and can order any of their products.
A bit spammy I know, but hey, he asked.
Cheers
I have my pick of all the high end goods at our shop(Intense, Turner, Foes, Rotec), and the Ventana was the clear choice for those seeking a "real world" dh rig. Its not the lightest frame(~12lbs for a large with steel spring), but its quad bearing system holds up to the nasty way better then...
Bummer, but it happens. Every major fork manufacturer sees their fair share of breaks every year. When you cast mag you always run the risk of voids.
Also, if you perhaps had crashed before and twisted the fork a small but unnoticed amount, it could've essentially been "loaded" in a certain...
I have a full head of long, unruly hair, so I can't really knock D Riff for that. However, as Luke's home mech and friend my vote obviously has to go to the "Stroblight" - now you see him, now you don't (total rip off from Talledega, I know).
Our shop (The Downhill Zone) had been sponsoring him for years and he had always ridden a DHR. For 07 he was picked by Maxxis who put him and teammate Cam Cole on custom Ellsworth Dare's. Same ICT design, but pretty radical geometry, HA damn near 63, bb 13.9, pretty big wheelbase, pure race...
Luke Strobel, keepin it pinned for the stars and stripes! Put three secs on his qual time, not bad. I guess he's starting to get comfy with his new rig.
My vote goes to the B1 team DH. Huge rear end and wide bb for solid feel and stompin landings. Pivot was high but not forward, directly above bb for super active travel. Geometry is sick, slack and low. Frame is beautiful, such unique lines. Pretty rare too, which adds to their appeal...
I second the vote for a Turner Highline. 150 rear wheels are nice mainly for wheelbuilders, because you can use the same length spoke on both sides. They look beefy too. Its not a bad thing.
But the one bike that appears to suit ALL of your desired traits is the PDC eighttwofive. Check...
06 holzfellers, 83mm howitzer bb. Super stiff, not overly heavy, very clean look. Available as short as 165's for Sunday's/low bb bikes. We've been putting them on Rotec's/M3's/other 83 mm shell bikes and they are some of the stiffest cranks I've seen. I like the fact that the arms press on...
LAME!
Favorite section on the hill no question. For some reason I always road really well through there, hardly any problems for 3 seasons straight. Oh well, I hope what they replace it with is fun in a different way.
Likewise, I had the 2.3 on the rear with a 721 rim, and the thing was just skipping and bouncing all over the rocks. The profile is way too square, to the point where I was drifting on concrete (that's a unique feeling). I too pinch flatted after my 4th run on a buttery 9 inch Rotec RL9 with a...
