    Who's done a century?

Organized or solo? Big difference. An organized century with multiple food stops and groups of other riders to pace with is (IMHO) much easier than an unsupported ride where you're on your own (either solo or with a small group). If you are in reasonably good riding shape, you should be...

    Bikes You Miss...

Yep... considering the Straight 6 makes a good HD trail bike when fitted with the front derailleur... which is how mine (Yeti version) is set up. I kept mine when I bought a dedicated DH bike... Unfortunately, wear-parts for it (various bushings) are getting hard to come by... :(

    Bikes You Miss...

I missed my Chameleon after I sold it... so I bought it back (and still have it). I wish I hadn't sold my Indy Fab cross-bike... that was a really nice bike... I sort of miss my 2nd mtn bike - a Head w/ elevated stays... but mainly for the nostalgia of it... despite being steel, it was so...

    Old vs. New DH Geometry

I don't know about "new vs. old" but improving "attack feel" can be done in a few ways... Drop the fork travel from 8" to 7". I remember trying a Shiver on my M-1 and disliked how it raised the front of the bike compared to the '99 Monster T and '00 Boxxer (both of which are about the...

The bike that got you started

I did my first DH races on my '92 Cannondale Delta V hardtail... F/S bikes were still uncommon back then.. I still have the frame... some day I'll rebuild it... maybe... probably not... The first F/S bike I bought was a Manitou FS-DH... that was too big for me... remember those? Had what...

    Pop goes my knee

That's 'cause Vicodin doesn't do anything... I have a bottle of that left over from my kidney stone from last year... the darned 600mg ibuprofen was more effective... now the oxy-codone... that took the pain away... made me completely useless and feeling like I was going to puke... but I wasn't...

    Pop goes my knee

Ah.... I made it through the first page... :bonk: Those non-riding sports... they'll get you! Heal up IAB...

    5-6+ Aggressive Trail bikes?

I've been looking at the Niner WFO as a future bike... I have to admit, I was skeptical at first, but after a few test rides, I'm a 29'er convert as well...

    Pyramid schemes and religious solicitation.

Trust me... I know more about the differences between spirituality and religion than you can imagine. You have no idea who you're talking to. You, however, apparently neglected to click on either of the links provided... This thread has already gone too far. I'm done.

    Bike travel Case for rent????

+1 what Todd said. My LBS (Guy's Bikes in Feasterville, PA) rented a case to me for my Whistler trip some years ago. You definitely want to call and reserve it well ahead of time. I did have to remove the fork (Boxxer) from the frame, but I was able to leave it more or less "assembled"...

    Pyramid schemes and religious solicitation.

All of the ones I've had encounters with do... something to do with "admitting to a higher power" or something... this was one of my father's complaints about them... although if it would get him to get clean, then I really wouldn't care... Lets' see... a quick google search turned up...

    Horrible Trail Etiquette

Well duh... We're in close proximity with Philadelphia mounted officers. Naturally, it would take a large piece of ordinance to ruffle one of them. Most of the horses I've encountered are well trained. They look at us, snort, and do what their rider tells them to do... however, just as there...

    Pyramid schemes and religious solicitation.

FWIW, my mother bought into this some years ago after my parents split... Unfortunately, this is one of the trappings of 12-step programs... now she lives in fear... goes to church a lot... She's more or less happy, so I'm glad for her... but I miss my "Mom"... the person I used to go canoeing...

    8 Speed petition

+1 I still have a few useable XTR 8 spd cassettes... I may sell shifters, but those cassettes will be pried from my cold, dead fingers... I find it helps to install a new chain every year. Seems to prolong the life... an old chain stretches... and wears the cassette to match... installing a...

    Horrible Trail Etiquette

The trails I ride on often in Philly were horse trails long before anyone ever thought of putting fat tires on a bike... so we show horses a great deal of respect. As for "training" a horse... well how do you expect the horse to gain experience with sharing a trail with bikes? Hypnosis? Be...

    ideal Patapsco bike?

I did a XC race and a trail ride at Patapsco about 10 years ago... Nice place... long climbs, fun descents... Personally, I wouldn't bother with a f/s bike... a hardtail... a 29er if one can fit her... would be perfect. I remember some of the climbs being rather long so I don't know if I'd want...

    Seb in I-cleaned-my-bike shocker!!

Wow... a DHi... I didn't think any of those were still in one piece... I can relate with still running an old frame... after I quit racing and sold my M-1, I'm back to running my old '98 Yeti Lawwill DH-6... with the '00 Boxxer, Hayes brakes and tubeless wheels from the M-1... mainly used for XC...

Router Vs. Plunge Router Vs. Laminate Trimmer

Oh how so many have said that... it's like crack... only more expensive... Or to paraphrase Peter Egan: Woodworking can make heroin addiction seem like a vague craving for something salty... There's just something about turning a few pieces of wood into something useful and cool looking.

What ta do, what ta do? Girl on a bike suggestions.

I tried getting my grl into riding... got her a bike that fit properly (old one was way too big)... she bought clothes she liked... even bought a silly trailer so I could tow her cat around (don't ask... )... we did ONE ride together on a tow-path with me riding my D/S bike and that...

Router Vs. Plunge Router Vs. Laminate Trimmer

Hey stosh... long time... I agree Festool is the sh1t... but I can't imagine how many tools they're selling in the US. A laminate trimmer is one of those tools you buy when you either, A) have run out of wood-working tools to buy and already have 2 or 3 routers (sometimes helps to have a...
