Howdy ladies!
Well, I'm actually not going to race DH this year, but I'm going to race singlespeed XC. I just built up a new 29" wheel singlespeed, so I'm going to go slog around through the mud for 17 miles or so. I'll miss ya'll on the DH course, but the whole practice situation at that...
I ride alone all the time! Of course, I enjoy riding with a group, but I've never let whether or not I have anyone to ride with stop me from going on a ride. I do tend to ride more conservatively when I'm by myself...no sense pushing the envelope! I just stay alert and try to anticipate...
If any of you local BMX tracks are open, give that a try. Most tracks are cool with MTBs on the track, but they might make you put a padset on your bike just to me legal. For myself, I found that a lot of my cornering "demons" were because I was braking in the turns...mostly out of habit...
Yeah, one of the dumb turns caught me on my first run down the hill and I ended up on my ass. Pinched something in my neck to the point that I woke up Sunday AM and could barely get out of bed...so I was bummed I couldn't race! It's getting better, but I've never had such a dumb, low-speed...
Other than a pair of longer bike shorts (I pull them over the top of my knee/shin guards to help keep them in place), I've never worn padded shorts for DH. If the course is really gnarly, I might put the hip pads in my moto pants, but that's about it. In racing DH for 7 or 8 years, I think...
It's about time, girl! I've seen you ride...I think you should have started in Sport. You rock! Are you going to go for practice on Saturday? I'll be there, but I'll probably have to go early so I can leave early.
I had a blast on it. Since this race was the first time I've even been on a DH bike in about a year and a half, it was perfect to get back in the groove. I'm planning on racing the series and maybe getting back into the whole DH race thing. Man, this sport is worse than crack cocaine...you...
Nice!!! Man, I'm getting the itch to start riding on the dirt again! My family really wants to beat my a$$ over the street bikes...I can't imagine what will happen if I get a dirt bike again. They will disown me for sure...:dead:
Hmmm...you'll have to e-mail me and let me know what you want for it. You'll also have to fill me in on what's been happening with you and your work situation...ya know? ;)
Very nice! However, I do think you need to buy a street bike and come ride with me. Or maybe I need to get a dirt bike again...I'm getting the bug to start to ride on dirt again! :)
Me and my new toy...
We'll be there with Haro and we're taking a TON of stuff we need to get rid of cheap cheap cheap! Tee shirts, frames, parts stripped off sample/demo bikes, wheels. Just look for the 25' long Penske truck (yes, we have that much crap to sell!).
See ya'll there!
Hey VG!
I'm with ya, girl! Your reasons for giving up DH aren't too different from mine. It was a tough decision, but ever since I sold my DHR and walked away, I haven't regretted it in the least. Like Holly said, there's so much more out there! To train for DH on a top level just...
This totally SUCKS! :( My thoughts and prayers go out to both of them.
They are both pretty tough so I know they will come out triumphant! Heck, I remember when they had just come over from South Africa and they would camp out in the SS parking lot in a little tiny tent...back when they...
Wow, Eio...do you have a single brother who lives in SoCal?!? :) LOL. Really, those are some of the nicest things I've ever heard a guy say about his riding partner/wife. Very cool and hats off to you for treating her like a queen! :)
And Jamsoul...for the record, not all girls who ride...
