    Ti spring on DHX

I have an RCS Ti Spring on my DHX 5.0. It seems to clear it just fine.... I think it is a 500 lb, and I'm not running the plastic spacer thingie... If you squint really carefully at my avatar, you can see it! -f00d

    Good UST wet/muddy DH tire

Well I decided on the Mich Comp 16's (in 2.5) and so far I've been really happy with them in the Utah talcum power dry. Off to BC this Friday, so I'm eager to give them a try! Thanks for all the advice, f00d

    Sherman SPV Woes

I've been riding a Sherman Breakout Plus (the 7" one) for 2 years now with SPV. I have to say for as much as I like the 5-7" adjustmnent, the low weight, and stiffness of the Sherman, SPV pretty much chafes my balls every ride. I wrote Manitou an email two weeks ago to get the part number to...

    Hadley Help

So, if on the 108 there is only one pawl engaged at a time (versus 3 on the 36) wouldn't it be more susceptable to failure? That is 3 times the force on one pawl...won't it wear a lot faster? I got a set of Hadley's this year, and now I'm wondering if mine are 36 or 108. -f00d

    Good UST wet/muddy DH tire

I'm about to head off to BC for a week of riding, and although I know this has been covered before for non-UST I'm looking for UST recommendations. It's got to fit in a Manitou Sherman, so probably 2.5/2.6 is the largest I can run. Last year I ran 2.5 Nevegal's (DH casing, stick-e) and really...

    headset preference

I'll vote for the FSA Orbit Xtreme, I have both sets of internals: 1.5 for a Sherman (trails and stuff) and 11/8 for a 888. Been riding it for 2 years and it has held up great. -f00d

E-13 Light guide and Raceface Altas misfit!

I had the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago installing an E13 DRS with Atlas cranks on my 73mm BB shell, and here is how I fixed it: Switch out the 3.5mm elastomer for the 2.5mm one. Add in another 1mm spacer on the drive side. This fixed my spacing issue, and did not seem to overly...

    How long is a 135mm x 12mm axle?

Yeah, the dropouts on the VPX are pretty "standard" probably about 7-9mm thick. I'm thinking 20-30mm of bolt hanging off the ass-end of my bike (that is installed, and tightened) is probably a really bad thing. Of course, I could just put the long side next to my deraileur and have a poor-mans...

    How long is a 135mm x 12mm axle?

I just received in the mail the 12mm axle for my standard (135mm) dropout Uzzi VPX. The axle measures 7 3/4" from the flat of the bolt to the end of the threads (195mm). This leaves an awful lot (about 25-30mm) of axle sticking out past the end of the nut in my dropouts. For comparison: a...

Places to day w/bikes in North Vancouver

Well damn, they both sound great. The Holiday Inn is like 3 times as expensive, but I'll ask the guys in my group (there are 6 of us, all with bikes.) Thanks for the suggestions. So the Seymour is the popular pub, is it right at the Holiday Inn? How come it doesn't look like there is any...

Places to day w/bikes in North Vancouver

I'm headed up to BC in June to do some riding, and I can't seem to find a good place to say in the North/West Vancouver area. I don't really want to stay in Vancouver proper with a bunch of bikes...so my question is: where is there a good place to stay around the trails in Vancouver? Thanks...

Weird Sound from my King headset

This happened to me a few years back with a Jr. T; it ended up the top cup cracked at the junction between the headtube press-in and the bearing press-in. Couldnt' see anything (but could hear the noise), eventually the top cup split into two...and unfortunately ovalized the lower part of my...

    Off to Whistler on Friday

Any advice for riding this time of year up there? I was there last year during high summer, but this is quite a bit later. Mostly just wondering about the typical weather; I'm assuming it is wetter and a bit colder. Is the upper lift still open? Are the days getting pretty short? Are the...

    Hayes El Camino's

I've been riding El Camino's this summer, and I think they are great brake for my application: an Uzzi VPX that I do as much climbing/trail riding as lift-served. They are super light and modulate better than any brake I've ridden (the adjustments are sweet.) I'd get the exact same brake again...

    New wheels, lots of options

I'm not too afraid of going the ghetto route...but I have the money budgeted for a new set of hoops. So I'm just wondering what direction to go in, it feels weird to just buy some standard rims and no-tubes them. -f00d

    New wheels, lots of options

I'm trying to decide on a new set of wheels for my Uzzi VPX, and while the hubs are an easy choice (Hadley's with a Saint axle) the Rims are not so clear. I really want to try a tubeless system, and I want something that isn't brick-heavy. So the choices as I see it are: - EX823's - very...

    VP Free with a 1.5?

The intense has a 50mm chainline option, shorter chainstays, less travel and a steeper head angle... So it's more than just 1.5. -f00d

    DHX 5.0 woes, already?

Is the boost valve the huge blue knurled knob that caps the resevoir? The one that varies the air chamber size? I don't think I have a seperate blue knob for compression, I have the blue Pro Pedal knob and the massive blue air-volume knob (which I thought was just end-of-stroke ramp-up). The...

    DHX 5.0 woes, already?

Thanks for the insights; if it is normal I can definitely deal with it (I just remember it meant impending doom on my old Fox) The bike is for freeriding although that has mostly meant a lot of pedaling and dirt jumping as of late. Today I got to do some high-speed lift runs, which is where I...
