I may be slightly biased... but it sounds like a Transition PrestonFR is just what you are looking for. Its a short travel Freeride bike that pedals great, and can take big hits. Plus Kyle and Kevin at Transition are local (Bellingham), and are really great guys to deal with...
Bump.
This event starts today. Check it out if you can get there, or look for coverage online.
Hemlock Resort is in BC, east of Vancouver by about 1 1/2 to 2 hr, just north of Chilliwack.
I am posting this for my friend Stephanie, who is putting this comp togeather. This comp is the first of its kind, a womens only freeride comp. Here is the info:

Hemlock Valley Resort, a regional destination for outdoor recreation, is pleased to announce...
Just a word of warning on the Fox for DJ. I have personally seen 2 different people tear both the dropout tabs off their Fox fork. Both involved a front wheel twisting crash, however, I would certainly not expect that outcome from either crash. I am not saying that it won't work great for...
Aaron Chase was running that chainguide on his copper bike 2 weeks ago here at "The Gathering" in Seattle. I know, because someone pointed it out to me, and I went over and took a closer look at it. Its a pretty cool looking setup, but I would think it might need to be replaced fairly...
I am sure some of you have heard that there was a fatal avalanche at Alpental yesterday (Wednesday, Jan. 12). Unfortunately, it has claimed the life of a local mountain biker, and a good friend of mine, Eric Lewis.

Step 2. Drive like a bat out of hell....
Step 3. Watch people freak out !!!
Edit: Fixed bad link... whoops...

I dont know anything about the Pike, but if past Rock Shox products are any indication, I would wait...
I have been running a Gusset 1er setup for 8 months now with no problems at all, however, its on a steel freehub. I have heard of other people having problems with AL freehub and getting their cog stuck. If you have an expensive hub with an AL freehub, I would worry about it, otherwise, ride...

(just for reference)
I love when someone goes off like this and anyone who isn't in agreement "Isn't thinking outside the box", its a nice cop-out when things are far fetched. Regardless, stop thinking so much and go out and ride your bike...
The RMC track is going to be changed to a dirt flat-track in January. Acording to AJ, they are giving him free reign of the inside of that oval to build whatever dirtjumps they want for the comp (they will pile dirt up with the bobcat, then people with shovels will do the shaping) Basically...
