it works. i bruised my heel trying three hops with some really unpadded shoes, but after it healed i could use the same shoes just fine with the heel pad gels. its nice because you can still wear thin-soled, grippy shoes while not having to worry about bruised heels.
and as to the...
so it seems like everyone would rather boost a double. can someone please explain slopestyle to me then? i know its something different, but in this case different just seems more awkward and not necessarily better or more fun.
Would you rather free fall off a 15" drop, or get boosted 7.5 feet over a big double? This question kind of comes from the comment i made in Thrillseeka's frame design thread. I personally find the thrill of literally taking off and flying through the air to be much more fun than just falling.
how about instead of going to all this effort so you can ride slightly more rugged terrain but still look bmx, you just ride bmx? why go all the way to a mountain to ride a slopestyle course when you could just ride way more flowy djs and a skatepark in your hometown?
(sorry i keep derailing...
i'm talking about guys who look natural and flowy in their movements, but the huge wheels under them look awkward. for example, i saw guy marsh and billy lewis riding 20s at my skatepark and they looked really sick. but when you watch a video of them at a park on their mtb, it looks goofy...
there are some tricks like inverts where mtb's look good, but others like turndowns look godawful on 26. style is definitely in the hands of the rider, but i gotta say watching even really stylish mtbers in skateparks and on street makes me wanna puke. 24 looks ok, but 26 is just so awkward...
idk, i think i've been watching too many bmx videos to appreciate that anymore. 20'' is just so much more stylish, and bmxers have had all those tricks for years on just as big of jumps. i don't mean to hate, but mtb just doesn't do it for me anymore (i still enjoy dh vids though, of course)...

race bikes are for racing and smooth dirt jumping, not street. even if it felt alright on street, you don't want to be racing something that has taken street abuse.
kinda secret, but not really. there are some in lynnwood that are super sick. i think monroe still has some good ones. black diamond/Port angeles ones are amazing i've heard. i'm sure there's others, just ask around when you see people. you could always go to softies in seatac too, but they...
